Eight Image Slideshow

http://slide.ly/view/2339adcb50b506745144e4101b607db8

The eight images in the slideshow represent who I am. The first picture shows how no matter who I’m with I’ll always be the shortest one. I’m always the smallest one out of all my friends. The second picture reminds me to stand tall despite my height. “Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you have ever, to stand up taller than you ever were.” The third picture shows how a “normal” pokemon can brighten someone’s day. I may look average but I can still brighten your day. I love surprising my friends because seeing them smile makes me feel happy. The fourth picture is very relevant. There are days where I wake up and I don’t feel like talking to anyone. I’m not mad or anything, I just want to be alone. The fifth picture describes how I feel when I’m in class. Half the time, I’m clueless to what’s going on in the class. I’m just like huh? The sixth picture totally describes me. I always make a list of what I should get done, but I never actually get any of the tasks done. I’m always procrastinating til last minute. The seventh picture seems babyish, but that’s what I do when someone makes a promise to me. I think pinky promises are special in a way that you can’t break the promise. If you’re gonna make a promise to me then it has to be a pinky promise. The last picture basically explains my life out of school. I always get to school early or on time. However when you decide to make plans with me outside, 100% sure I’m late all the time. I’m hardly ever on time. If you want me to be on time, you tell me one hour before the scheduled meeting time. So the eight images basically sums up who I am, Angela Chan.

My Drawings

These drawings represent who I am. I am interested in Anime, Enka, and Japanese History. These artworks were based on the animus that I have known, my imagination, and my originality.

My artworks include Anpanman(アンパンマン), Mighty Cat Masked Niyander(ニャニがニャンダー ニャンダーかめん), Crayon Shinchan(クレヨンしんちゃん), and Doraemon(ドラえもん). My topics range from reenactments to travel. My enka fan is Saburo Kitajima(北島三郎), a mid-70s singer from Hokkaido.

Mighty Cat Masked Niyander was aired between Feb. 2000 and Sep. 2001. As the Niyander Kamen series reaches its 20th Anniversary in 2020, I thought about reviving this show.

I wanted to be an Enka singer-songwriter. As I have known that there are several non-Japanese Enka singers, there are no known non-Japanese Enka songwriters. Enka is a declining Japanese song genre to the younger audiences. I thought about introducing Enka theme songs into animus, especially Mighty Cat Masked Niyandar, where the first opening theme song would be “Niyander Kamen Ondo(ニャンダーかめん音頭).” I thought about being a disciple of Saburo Kitajima to get a head start on my career.

I knew people like Miyamoto Musashi and Sakamoto Ryoma. These people were samurais who contributed to Japanese society.

Music Playlist

1. Ani Maamin- Eitan Katz

2. Here Comes the Sun- The Beatles

3. Come Together- The Beatles

4. Piano Man – Billy Joel

5.  Dream On- Aerosmith

6. Burning Heart- Survivor

7. Eye of the Tiger- Survivor

8.  You are so Beautiful- Joe Cocker

I have always loved music and it has always been an escape for me. Whenever I am stressed out or upset I just plug in my headphones and just relax my mind as I listen to the music. My dad is also very musical so I grew up with music being a huge part of my life.

I chose Ani Maamin by Eitan Katz because I love being Jewish and I have a lot of pride in my religion. Ani Maamin is hebrew for I believe and to me it has always been a staple song throughout my life. Then I chose Come Together and Here Comes the Sun, by The Beatles, because those are my dad’s favorite Beatles’ songs and they quickly became mine as well. He was always in the Oldies and that was the type of music that was constantly buzzing around my house.

Then I chose PIano Man cause it is just an awesome classic and I really love the classics. Listening to that type of music makes me thing of the fond memories I have as a child, in the car with my    dad, listening to 104.3 every morning on the way to school. They are memories I’ll always cherish and it really created a special bond between me and my dad.

Then I chose Eye of The Tiger and Burning Heart, by Survivor, because they both are about working hard and  having the drive to accomplish your goals. I have always used the difficult situations in my life to fuel my motivations. My parents always taught me that you don’t get anywhere in life without hard work and you always have to keep your eye on the prize. So these two songs really embody that mindset. Not only this, but those are also two main songs in Rocky, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. My sister and I must have seen that movie together 2 million times. So those songs also bring back amazing memories.

My Animation

A Brief Introduction

I’ve decided to make a quick 50~ second animation. To describe yourself in two minutes, eight images, or ten songs is an amazing feat; I’m sure they only skim the surface of ourselves. Hence, I tried to make do with eight “slides” in this animation. There are at least ninety different pictures, all drawn digitally by me. It was a fairly simple animation (a lot of repeated actions) and I believe it does well to portray who I am.  I enjoy drawing. I like creating things in general. And as the animation says, I like to challenge myself. I grew interested in animating after I created a one minute and thirty seconds short for my computer science class in high school (I intend to remake it…soon). I can go on about how fun/intricate/amusing/complex animating is for hours, if anyone bothers to listen.

The song I used is 夜待ちルイン, or Night Awaiting Ruin composed by DenporuP, covered by KK. Thanks for reading. Sorry for the corny fluff.

My Playlist- Danelsy Genao

FRO Playlist–Danelsy Genao

I am the type of person who is not very big on change or trying new things. I like being able to understand everything and know exactly what is going on around me. In my playlist I have songs that are both in spanish and in english because I know exactly what they are saying. On the other hand, I do have one song that is in Hindi (Nagada Sang Dhol). Although I do not understand a word that they are saying I like it because it is catchy and very upbeat. The same goes for the song Dude. I understand about half of the song but I like it anyways. For me liking these songs makes me feel like I am open and willing to appreciate aspects of other cultures despite the fact that I hate not knowing what’s going on. I am a very curious person and listening to songs that are not spanish or english feeds my curiosity a bit. I get insight into other cultures other than my own. The playlist also has more songs it should (it has 12). It’s mostly because I am very indecisive and I cannot limit myself. I can never be satisfied with the minimum and usually like to exceed standards with anything that I can. I like listening to songs that have a positive message behind them. As a teenager I’ve spent a lot of time  being insecure and trying to find myself and so sometimes there are songs that make me feel better about myself and who I am as a person. This is why I love Prince Royce so much (besides the fact that he’s very cute) and why there are two of his songs on my playlist. His songs are always filled with positivity and help me when I need to be uplifted. I love dancing as well but not like professionally but for fun. When a song has a good beat to dance to I tend to like it instantly. As long as something is fun and positive I am all for it (most of the time at least).  Then there’s that one song that seems to be the odd one out of all of them which is Sugar by System of a Down. I’ve liked that song since I was maybe in 6th grade because I was big fan of Dylan and Cole Sprouse and their favorite band was System of a Down so of course I had to like them too. But now that song along with Chop Suey and BYOB are probably the three weirdest songs on my ipod. That’s the weird side of me. The side that no one would expect but I love it because its a surprise and its different. I love good surprises and I love being different. There’s no fun in being what people expect you to be.

My Playlist

1. A Thousand Years
2. For the First Time
3. Counting Stars
4. K-Love Mashup
5. Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)
6. Here Comes the Sun
7. Penn Masala Evolution of Bollywood
8. Some Nights
9. Smooth Criminal-
10. Big Spender

So my playlist encompasses a lot of who I am. I have some more well known songs like Counting Stars and For the First Time to show I’m one of those people that can never get tired of a song no matter how many times I hear it. I like A Thousand Years because I’m a sucker for romantic chick flicks but I also just threw in some old school Beatles and Jackson because I love music you can dance too. I also included a Bollywood song because it is a part of my culture and I love watching and dancing to Bollywood movies. The Penn Masala and Some Nights songs are done in A- Capella because in high school I was part of the A- Capella group and I love to sing too. So that’s how these ten songs fit into me.

I chose to do a musical playlist with songs that have a special meaning to me or describe how I’ve felt recently about the transition to college. Some of the songs, such as “Good Life” by Kanye West and “Diane Young” by Vampire Weekend are tracks that simply make me happy. They’re upbeat and they are the songs I often find myself playing when I am feeling down, so they hold a special place in my heart. I put two Marina and the Diamonds songs on there “Sex Yeah” and “How to Be a Heartbreaker” because they have feminist themes and female-empowering messages, both of which I am a strong believer in. The three songs by the artists Lorde I included, “Ribs”, “A World Alone”, and “400 Lux” are on there because I honestly feel as if her entire album, entitled “Pure Heroine” gives the feeling of someone about my age, making a major change in their lives. In my case, this major change is moving to the city to go to college and becoming more independent, and I can relate to many of her lyrics such as, “This dream isn’t feeling sweet / We’re reeling through the midnight streets / And I’ve never felt more alone / It feels so scary getting old” from the track “Ribs.” I’ve  been a fan of the rapper Drake as well as Nicki Minaj for a while and their song “Makes Me Proud” has a personal meaning to my life. The song “Be Calm” but the band Fun. is on this playlist because it’s something I constantly remind myself in stressful situations and I think it’s an important message for everyone to remember. Specifically the chorus, “Be calm. / I know you feel like you are breaking down. / I know that it gets so hard sometimes, / Be calm.” Finally, “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” relates to my life because I feel as if I’m still having mixed feelings on living in this huge city away from my boyfriend and family and as much as I love the city, my experience so far is not at all what I expected. However, I’m still giving myself time to adjust before I make any major decision.
