Matthew’s Meme Reflection

image(http://m.quickmeme.com/Lazy-College-Senior/)
This meme called lazy college senior (freshman in my case) is about completing (or not completing) textbook reading for home work represents my time so far at Baruch due to the fact that I had the same mindset as the man pictured. Coming into college I expected my self to complete all work no matter what it was. However, after realizing that most of our professors said to do the reading but did not actually place a huge emphasis on it, I typically slacked off and ultimately neglected to do it. One class in particular that doing the reading would have beneficial was philosophy. I did not do any of the readings past the first one and it ultimately came back to haunt me. The weekend before the first test I was pressed with time and had to go back to many of the sections to have a better understanding of the material. It was a stressful time and could have been avoided if I had done the reading throughout the semester. If I had read the book throughout the time before the exam I could have possibly pinpointed at I was unsure of and studied more efficiently. This same thing also happened in my political science class, where instead of reading throughout the semester I crammed it all into the weekend before. To prevent this from happening again in the future, I am definitely going to put in a little extra time and do my readings when they are assigned because I now see that it is beneficial. It is better to space it out throughout the semester rather than cramming it all right before an exam. I can attempt to use better time management skills to accomplish this. One way I can do this is utilize my time on the train more efficiently. I have about a two hour commute each day (about an hour to school and an hour back) and could easily get more work done on the train. This is time when I have no external distractions (Other than the rare loud person talking on their phone) so it is the perfect conditions to get more work done. I could also utilize the library more often during my break times as it is a quiet place when can get work done. One class that I have enjoyed doing the reading has been our English class. While it is not always the most interesting, we do know that there will be a quiz each time so there is definitely an incentive to completing the work. Many scientific studies show that reading has its benefits. Increased amounts of reading could improve your writing and grammar skills, and could also possibly raise your iq level. Not only would I be getting my work done for class, but I would also possibly be getting skills that I could use later in life. Learning early on that I should definitely do all of my reading will only improve my next few years of college as I now know what to do in the future.

Matthew’s Monologue

Sitting at my high school graduation I was filled with joy. Four years of my life was coming to a end and this was the culmination of it all. I couldn’t wait for the procession to be over in part due to the fact that we all crammed in a hot auditorium, but also because I wanted to finally begin the next chapter of my life. However as the final speeches were coming to a close, the words of my science teacher came to mind. “When you guys are at graduation”, he said ,”take a step back. Look around and really soak it in. This is the last time you will be will all 600 of your classmates.” I thought about how after this event, we would all be branching off on our own journeys. I would be heading to the city each day, others would be going out of state, and things would no longer be the same. We were leaving behind our childhood and transitioning into adulthood. I knew the exciting things we had in store of us and I was ready to get started with my future.   DSC08146

Who’s Matthew?

Hi LC09, I have decided to make a slideshow to let you guys know a little bit more about myself.

The first slide that I included was one of my family. My family is extremely important to me and I could not imagine my life without them. My sister and I are very close. We spend a lot of time with each other and she is always there for me whenever I need her. My parents are very supportive in all that I try to accomplish. My dad is the most hardworking person I know and I always go to him for help. My mom is very caring and always has my best interest in mind. Although my great-grandma passed away a few months ago, she was one of the most loving people I know and would always put everyone else before herself. She was super excited to find out that I would be attending Baruch. My next slide is about my dog Nikki. She is a Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix. Having wanted a dog all my life, finally getting her in the sixth grade was a huge surprise. She is crazy and playful at times, but can also be calm and relaxed at other times. My third slide is of my friends and I. I have been friends with my friends in the pictures for many years, one since first grade. We all go to college close to home so we are able to hang out whenever possible. My next slide is of my daily commute. My elementary, middle, and high school were all located within 5 minutes of my house so having a long commute has taken some getting used to. I have to first take the LIRR for about an hour to penn and then take the 1,N, or R subway to Baruch. While I was hesitant about the commute at first, I have grown to enjoy it and get a lot of work done while on the train. My fifth slide is revolved around the NY Jets. We have been Jet season ticket holders for over 30 years. My dad, sister, uncle, family friends, and I would all get to the stadium early and tailgate. We would set up 2 grills and cook different kinds of food such as steak, hamburgers, and hotdogs. My next slide is of a Blue October concert that I have recently attended. They are my all time favorite band and I can listen to them for hours. Going to concerts is an activity that I recently started doing more often and I look forward to going to more in the future. My seventh slide is of various locations in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Most people know this as the Amish Country. This has been my families favorite vacation spot which we try to visit yearly. Some of my favorite childhood memories come out of these vacations. My last slide is of my sister and I on two different roller coasters. I love to go to amusement parks and do other thrilling activities.

About Matthew

Me

Hi LC09, my name is Matthew Edelson. I have lived in Woodbury, NY all my life and attended Syosset High School. Baruch was my top choice college due to its highly ranked accounting program and the fact that it’s in the city. Some of my favorite hobbies include watching TV shows (my favorite being Breaking Bad), going to concerts, and running. Some expectations I have for myself while in Baruch are to explore the city as much as possible and get an internship at a big 4 accounting firm.
