Almost all of us can agree that music is a great form of comfort. There’s a song made for each emotion and every setting. The songs I have chosen to share with you are the ones that have touched me in different ways. Whether they have made me smile, dance, cry, or just think, they’ve had a great affect on me. Rap/hip-hop would probably be my favorite genre of music. I chose four songs from that category, represented by some of my favorite rappers. Beauty by Fabolous is written in words that every girl would want to hear from her significant other. We all want to be told that we’re beautiful and there’s no one else in the world like us. Similarly, White Dress by Kanye West and Song Cry by Jay-Z are about being in love and caring for one person even more than for yourself. Hearing sincere music about falling in love from rappers who usually write about money and numerous insignificant girls is extremely refreshing. Headlights by Eminem is a song he wrote about his relationship with his mother and is basically an apology to her. It’s really easy for me to relate to this song because of a really similar situation I’m in with my father. The lyrics really get me thinking and reevaluating many of the things going on in my life. Besides rap music, I do enjoy calm songs about love. I can put a few songs in the same category, being that they are all quite alike. Lay Me Down by Sam Smith (not the remix), Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Made to Love by John Legend, and The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra are some of the warmest songs I’ve ever heard. If you haven’t noticed, all of the love songs I have chosen were written and performed by men. I’m fascinated by the way that men fall in love and how they feel when they experience it in different ways. Women are usually very open and talkative about their personal lives. It’s very interesting to hear from a man’s point of view to really understand what goes on inside their minds. Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve is one of those songs that make you really think about life. The lyrics focus on the point that “You make all this money, then you die” and immediately makes one reconsider what is valuable and essential in life. After replaying the song a few times, suddenly money doesn’t seem to be the top priority in one’s life. Lastly, I chose one feel-good song that just always makes me happy. Gold (Snakehips Bootleg) by Bondax is nice to listen to when you’re in a good mood. The beat is very different from other happy songs and is calmer than most. As you can see, you probably know only one or two of the songs that I have listed. Listen to some of the others and let me know what you think.
