1st semester at Baruch!

shocked-meme

So… this meme truly depicts me during the semester so far. It can be seen through many aspects; whether it be my reaction to the professors I have for my classes, their teaching styles, the people I end up seeing at Baruch, and of course the surprise I get when I see my grades.

As we all know, studying for tests and quizzes is pretty stressful. To me, I feel like even when I do or don’t study, I end up getting a low grade anyway. Haha. But so far, in my classes, such as calculus or Latin American Studies, I would receive a higher grade than I expected. And I would think to myself exactly what the meme says, “What is this sorcery?” If you feel the same way, we are best friends. But I guess this is a good thing, so I’m not complaining.

On the other hand, what I AM complaining about, are the classes and the professors. Not all, but most. I guess each professor has a flaw, but maybe some are just more lenient, or maybe others are more organized; but what I’m saying is is that all our professors are different, and probably did not teach or handle the class well in different ways. Calculus: he was pretty confusing and seemed confused himself. English: we were reading stories most of the time instead of practicing writing. History: I don’t think the class learned much, except that no one really reads. LTS: wasn’t that bad, but there was so much information to take in for every class and the quizzes and test were killer. Communications: it was such a fun test, but not much feedback after each speech and the grading system makes it hard to see if you did well enough. And last, but not least, FRO: it was a fun day and we always got treats from our professor. (: That made my Thursdays, after all those classes. The only thing was that it was pretty late on Thursday, but it was a nice class to have, especially when Eena treated us to coffee, and we all just chilled and hung out together as Baruch students. We were able to get advice from Eena; well, at least Geet did (; . That made me closer with my friends and will be be one of my favorite memories, here at Baruch.

In the end, my first semester at Baruch, and as a college student, is quickly coming to an end with finals coming our way. It was great to spend this time with LC10. Good luck everyone!

(Who knows? We might get unexpected grades on our finals or we might have classes together again, and we will all say “What is this sorcery?”)

Thank you

Did you wake up this morning thinking that you are lucky to live another day of your life? To be honest, I didn’t. I guess you could say I take it for granted that I wake up with no problem to live another normal day of my life. I don’t realize it, but I go on without appreciating every person or every little thing. I really should, because there are many people who wake up and cannot live their life how they want because they are unable to go out and do the things they love, and there are others who do not wake up to see another day. This just so happened to one of my best friend Amy Tan.

Amy was my friend in high school, and she had cancer. I remember I would always see her studying for her classes and getting involved in school, not only in her classes, but also during her free periods and even after school. She made me more determined to work hard in order to do better, and in the end all the hard work paid off. I graduated high school, passed all my classes with high grades, and I am able to go to college. I am blessed to live a great life and be able to do all this, while Amy never had the chance to. She passed during her senior year. Amy couldn’t graduate high school or even turn 17 during her time here. It was hard to see all her time, effort, and hardwork go to waste. But in the end, it wasn’t wasted. It helped me to appreciate everything and appreciate being able to wake up and live my life. She made me determined to achieve my goals and do the things she never had the chance to.

Amy taught me to be more appreciative of the things I have and of the people who are in my life, because without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

My family and friends kept me motivated and pushed me to do my best in everything, even when I doubted myself and gave up. Without them, I would not be here today and I would be lost and disappointed in myself. Also, I am blessed to grow up with shelter, food, clothes, and education. I always look at others to see what I want that I don’t have, but by doing that, I forget to look around and remember to appreciate what I already have.

I truly appreciate everything and everyone in my life, especially my friend Amy Tan.

Hey! I am Leslie Chen. This is a slideshow of some of the important people and highlights of my life. I really enjoy playing volleyball and drawing. Music also helps clear my mind when there’s a lot going on. Music, playing volleyball, drawing, and spending time with my friends and family help me escape stress and just relax and enjoy life. My friends, family, team, and church are precious to me and influenced my life and the decisions I make. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today! (:

1) Drawing : Here is a picture of a drawing I drew last year of food. Not only is the picture of something else I love, it is also a hobby that I enjoy doing during my free time. When I am stuck somewhere and don’t have anything to do, I would doodle or draw something. I love drawing, ever since I was little.

2 & 3) Volleyball : Volleyball is one of the biggest factors of my life. It helped me open up to many people who I have become really close friends with. This is a picture of me with my volleyball team in high school.

This is a picture of my church’s volleyball team. We all enjoy playing this sport and have fun helping each other and coming together every week. Everyone is very supportive and is always there for me.

4) Best Friends : Here are a picture of me and some of my closest friend since middle school/intermediate school. We stuck together for more than 7 years and we are  still great friend till this day and into the future. They are really fun to be with and encouraging. It’s always great to have reunions and catch up on how we are, especially since we all attended different schools.

5) Church : This is a picture of me with some of my teammates/church members at our summer retreat last year. I love my church and everyone in it. It is a place where everyone can be very comfortable being who I am and to just goof around. Everyone at church is like my second family.

6 & 7 & 8) Priceless Memories : These are pictures of some memories I made. Eating Melt ice cream sandwiches, tutoring my friend in Russian, and just making weird faces for pictures. The smallest things could be the most precious and priceless.
