Life’s a Maze

I used to constantly question the decisions I made in life, and often asked myself if I was making the correct ones. It’s hard when one has a strong passion for something, but is afraid to fully pursue their dreams for fear of failing. This usually then leads to the question of “do I give up what I love to pursue something that will provide me with a more reliable result”?

I have recently come to the realization that life is similar to a maze, and there is no truly correct path one may choose. There are multiple paths in mazes, and while some will take an individual deeper and deeper into the maze, others will lead one to the definitive end point. Although the goal of a maze is to find an exit, which is ultimately your end point, those who complete it quickly wont have had the experience that those who were taken through many paths would.

If one treats life like a maze, then they will realize that there is no such thing as failing.

Yes, life isn’t perfect and yes there are times when everyone feels like giving up; but those who give up don’t ultimately achieve their goals, and usually end up regretting their decision. Life is expected to be hard, but through experiencing these hardships one is able to grow as an individual and improve.

The next time you feel the need to question your decisions, always remember that life is a maze and that every path you take will ultimately lead you to where you belong.

A little about me

For some people, moving from one country to another is a very big deal, for me and my family it’s a challenge we like to take on ourselves.

The story of my family’s life begins in the 1990’s when they decided to pack all their belongings and leave all that they had achieved in Russia and move to a totally different country with a different society and people- Israel.

At the time, my parents had a young daughter (my four year- old sister) to travel with them, which of course made the whole process much harder. My parents were living a very successful life back there and they gave up for everything “just” for a principle they believed in, living in a country they could call home.

This inspiring story became my mantra for life and the way I’m trying to live. What it mostly means to me is that I never should stop being determined at what I believe in and always follow my goals and dreams, even with a high cost.

Just like my parents did 24 years ago I also left my own homeland and after a long time waiting I moved to the States about a year and a half ago. Although my goals and settings were different from theirs, I see it as a continuing journey to success and prosperity they had started before.

The moving process wasn’t easy at all and it still has some ups and downs every once in a while Being foreign is always hard but especially when you live a 12 hour flight from your family. My relatives are the closest people to me and being so far away from them when I need them or think about them is not an easy task to deal with.

The reason I wanted to move to the US initially is because I believe it’s easier to gain your first capital here, whether if working for someone or having your own business. Israel is much smaller county, and although you can have a great life there the opportunities for people who want to be “more than everyone else” are bigger in the US.

Before I applied to Baruch, I wasn’t even sure I could handle living so far on my own and I applied also to a school back home (yes, I still refer it as my home). Fortunately or not, I was admitted to both, and the question whether I want to stay or not became much more urgent.

I was meeting with friends, talking with the family, consulting people from the marketing industry (my desired major) and basically really tried to understand if all I’m leaving behind is worth it.

And here I am, six months later, in America, in my freshman seminar, writing a monologue, not in my native language and hopefully not struggling with it too much…

I’m sure my next four years won’t be easy all the time, but I hope it will help me get closer to my goals and dreams in life. I’m doing all of it, because I believe there is nothing “impossible”. If you want to achieve something, you can get it!

This is also why I chose a picture that emphasizes my believes and thoughts 🙂
