Blog Post 3

For my third blog post, I decided to go to two JP Morgan resume building workshops. The first time I went, I wasn’t prepared with my own resume because I heard last minute, but after hearing about a second one hosted by UCLA, I went prepared. During the workshop, the representatives talked about the proper formatting of the resume as well as what should be in it to make it look more appealing to the interviewer. From there, they talked about how to approach an interview and most of the aspects about it like what to wear, how to act during the interview, and many more fundamental things. They also told us to prepare certain things and to have a good background knowledge on the company before going into an interview. Overall, the workshops were very beneficial, especially the second time through, and hopefully the tips that they gave will be able to help me in the future.

Club Fair

For my Student Life event, I chose to go to the club fair. The fair had a ton of different clubs, and was a very engaging experience with all the members of different clubs trying to get you to join them. I saw many different clubs, though a lot of them did not interest me as much as others. One of the clubs I signed up for was the e-sports club because I love playing games and thought it was crazy that there was a club for almost everything that you could think of. With Michael, we went around different clubs and wrote down our contact information on the clubs that interested us. I believe that club life is important because it gives opportunities to students who have a hard time meeting people, and are able to meet new people with the same interests. Hopefully, by joining clubs I will be able to meet people who can expand my interests on certain topics and allow me to create connections that would not have been possible without the help of clubs.

Taking the VARK Quiz

VARK Quiz

For my academic blog assignment, I decided to take the VARK quiz, mainly because I had no idea as to what it was and was also very convenient to take. VARK is an acronym which stands for Visual, Aural, Read, and Kinesthetics, and is meant to help the person taking the test to learn what their learning preference is. I took the quiz and got not too surprising results, with reading/writing and kinestheics as my highest, followed by aural and lastly visual.  In school, I often learn the best from practicing examples and getting a good understanding of how a problem is solved, which is mainly kinesthetics. It allows me to get involved with the problem, rather than staring at it, unlike Visual, which is my lowest category. I believe that the VARK Quiz is somewhat accurate, with my highest categories of kinesthetics and reading/writing. To me, those are very essential when it comes to learning in a class because it helps me absorb the information which prepares me for different kind of questions that I might have to answer.
