Freshman Seminar Fall 17 BWB

Career

Coming into Baruch, I knew what I wanted to major in, international business. I had no idea what was going on and I felt like I was the only confused one. Walking through these halls, every body seems like they know what they’re doing. I was honestly scared and I broke down all the time. However, going to the Majors & Minors fair gave me a chance to speak to one of the advisors there. I know that international business is a different process then the rest of the business majors so I still have to look more into the procedure. Also with the help of the scheduling advisor, I now know what class I need to  take for the future because I️ now know what to do! Thankfully, now I am less confused and I’m excited to start taking classes for my majors and minors!

Monologue

Money is power, yes I know
But what is power without knowledge
Yeah I go to work
But I also college

Lectures are boring
And I show up with a straight face
I don’t wanna be here
But that final I gotta ace

When the clock hits 12, I run outta class
My phone is ringing
Who’s that you ask?
Oh it’s just the money calling

Pull up to soho
Ready to swirl
I look over at my friend
You ready girl ?

I put on my apron
And it’s so fire
Some weirdo comes in
Are you looking to hire?

Sorry but not right now
Gotta focus on swirling
Wearing my fresh air maxes
Feeling brolic like I’m curling

Taking the N train home
My feet feels numb
Can’t wait to sleep
But first gotta get my homework done

My head hits the pillow
I’m immediately asleep
The dreams that I’m having
Are far too deep

I had a dream I was at the top of the world
Waking up in Paris having brunch off my balcony
Making all this money
and now I support the family

I’m a businesswoman
Got a house in every country
All this foreign currency
Own properties like monopoly

I’m living lavish and my diamonds gleam
We’re the owners of our dreams

I wanna be successful
Doing things you wouldn’t think to be accessible
And I swear one day this will come true
But for now, I gotta finesse school

Model U.N.

A few weeks ago, I went to an informational meeting for the Model U.N. club because I was very interested in what the club did and had to offer. I only stayed for twenty minutes because I had work so I didn’t really get to grasp the whole concept of the club. One morning while I was waiting for my drink at Starbucks, I bumped into this upperclassmen, Zain. Zain and I went to high school together at Midwood and saw each other on the bus to school very often. He advised me that I should join a club, and I mentioned Model U.N. To my surprise, Zain is the president of the club! We sat down at Starbucks and he literally explained EVERY THING to me about the club. I am very interested and hopefully next year, when I have more free time I would be able to join a club or two!

the library

The biggest struggle is having a break and not knowing what to do. My friend Gabriel and I decided to stop going to food places and started to go to the library. To my surprise, the library is so nice, and it contains six floors of pure quietness. When we first walked in, I saw a poster for free Microsoft Office download for undergraduates which is the best thing ever. So Gabe and I quickly settled down on a comfy chair and table over watching the view of the spiral stairs. Gabe and I both downloaded from the link provided on the poster but it didn’t work! We were so stressed out because we only had fifteen minutes left of our break. So we went to the help desk on the first floor of the library and asked the woman how we could get it to work and she redirected us to the BCTC (Baruch Computing and Technology Center). So the next day, Gabe and I went to the center and a really informative and kind man helped us figure it out and told us that we could come back anytime for further questions! I’m so glad that we have our own “Genius Bar” or “Geek Squad” in Baruch because it’s so convenient.
