Freshman Seminar Fall 17 BWB

Career

When choosing classes for the upcoming semester, I was quite worried because I was unsure of what classes I should be taking. Fortunately, last Wednesday, our academic advisor stopped by with a thorough presentation. After the presentation, I felt a lot more assured about what classes I should be registering for and my next steps as a freshman. It was a bit overwhelming to receive all the information all at once, but I was mostly excited about finally getting started on my career in public affairs. Additionally, I logged onto DegreeWorks while making my schedule for the next semester, which I found really helpful. DegreeWorks showed me what classes I had to take and helped to outline the process as a whole. These resources thoroughly assisted me in developing my career at Baruch and beyond.

Baruch Performing Arts Center

At times, the William and Anita Newman Library can be fairly crowded, especially in the afternoon. With homework assignments to complete and an exam to study for, I was in need of a quiet, empty space in which I could use. I only had around an hour left of my break left and I knew it would take me quite a while to find a seat in the library, so I resorted to the basement of Baruch, where the Performing Arts Center is. I was able to locate a space in which I could use and I was pleased to find out how sanctioned it is. Within no time, I was able to settle down and begin working on my assignments, with nothing to disrupt me. While I was there, I also received some information on the upcoming events the Performing Arts Center had. There are a wide variety of events to be held and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Model UN Betrayals

Having participated in Model UN for most of my high school experience, I was decently thrilled to see that Baruch had a Model UN club. I enjoyed Model UN in high school and I planned on further exploring it at Baruch. Unfortunately, it seems as if Baruch’s Model UN club is nonexistent, seeing as not only could I not find it, but neither could Deana, who also shared the similar interest of joining Model UN. After unsuccessfully finding the club, I came to the conclusion that either a) I thoroughly convinced myself that Baruch had a Model UN club or b) Baruch’s Model UN club isn’t too good with recruiting new members. On our way out of the building, we were stopped by someone part of the National Society of Leadership and Success, who informed us about their many benefits such as networking, scholarships, and more. While I was disappointed after an unsuccessful Model UN hunt, I was pleased learn of just one of the intelligent organizations Baruch works with. So, it was kind of alright.
