For my last and final blog for Freshman Seminar, I went to the Hillel Tech Fair on Thursday, November 16 at 12:30, during club hours. I found out about the fair through a friend who was looking for an internship or job to apply for. The fair took place the multipurpose room on the 1st floor. The flyer we were given said that five envelopes around the room were hidden for anyone to take. Inside the envelopes was a prize ranging from an Amazon Echo to a $10 Chipotle gift card.
When we went in finally inside they were serving free food and drinks to everyone. They had falafel sandwiches, curry chicken sandwiches, salads, etc… After everyone took a seat we were introduced to our panelists who would talk about their experience as a entrepreneur and answer questions from the host of the Hillel Tech Fair. In addition to the panel, their were also booths on the side introducing their companies and offering internships and jobs.
There were at least six different panelists that came from their own unique company that they either started or work for. One panelist started a business in education and tutoring for college students. Another panelist started a Messenger/Discord related platform for sport lovers. As the panel continued, the panelist gave us advice as young business majors and future entrepreneurs. They said “Throughout your future careers you’re going to fail, the more you fail, the more you learn and grow from your mistakes so don’t be afraid of failure.” As a business major, I would say that their advice struck me at first because of my fear of failure in life. However they were only speaking the truth. Throughout my future career there will be times where I’ll have to deal with failure, and with these failures I’ll have to learn and grow to start from scratch again.
