Trip to Whitney

For my English class, we decided to visit the Whitney Museum for one of our projects. Our objectives were to scope the architectural style of the Whitney Museum and give a detailed description and to pay close attention to the arts that surround the whole museum and extend the history of the art. Going for an easier approach, I chose to describe the architecture of the museum and its neighborhood, going into much details about the surroundings and settings.

Having been there once before, I had an idea of what the museum looked like. However, it never fails to amaze me when I stepped through the front door. The bright lights instantly welcome you and the spacious structure will surprise you. That is not the best part, however. When you take the trip up the elevator and onto one of the main floors, as soon as you walk out to the terrace, you will be greeted with one of the most amazing views. The view of the city is a gorgeous, gorgeous sight that you will grow to love. It is so beautiful, you will never stop taking photos to save on your camera roll. Every different angle will be a new photo to take and save. Sometimes, you won’t even want to pull out your camera. You’ll be fixated on the view, you will just stand at the ledge and capture the moment.

The Whitney Museum has amazing arts, I agree. All of the arts have meanings and stories behind the creation, but some have more meanings than others. Some will interest you and some will not. Most of all, nothing will interest me more than the view Whitney has. An extra picture has been attached to show the view. Also, that’s my best friend on the right.

She Just Wants to Find the Light (Monologue)

The feeling of being unwanted
That was what she felt.
The thought of being excluded
Was hard for her to dealt
She just wants to scream
To let everything go.
But her mind held her voice back
And she just sinks further below.
She daydreams of the day that she’ll be happy again
But that just seems like years to come.
She’s searching for that light at the end of the tunnel
But her determination has succumbed.
Then she met him,
The guy of her dreams.
It seems so unreal,
He boosted her self-esteem.
Her darkness turned to light,
Even she didn’t notice.
He knew what he got himself into,
So, he became devoted.
Her smile got wider and wider each day,
Her sadness slowly faded away.
He became her savior,
So, she got braver and greater.
She was indeed happy, but only for a while
As he suddenly got tired,
And decided it wasn’t worthwhile.
He backed away each and every day,
until he had enough space.
And when that final blow struck,
He left without a trace.
No explanations, no goodbyes,
She couldn’t understand why.
It left her heartbroken for several months,
She didn’t eat, she didn’t sleep.
All she could do was ask herself why.
Even she couldn’t do that, so she weeps and weeps.
She knew it was too good to be true,
For a guy to fall for a girl like her.
Now she’s back to her old ways,
When everything was just a blur.
She knew it was better this way,
Being alone and depressed
And no one has to care for her,
It is for the best.

Bloomberg Workshop

Not knowing what to do for my career blog and with the due date approaching quickly, I had a limited option of what to do and where to go. With not many options, I was at first stuck. However, having heard of the Bloomberg workshop from a few of my classmates, I decided to go and check it out myself to see what it is all about. This certain workshop itself cost $24,000. With only a limited number of computers for this workshop, specifically 11, I was able to find myself one sharing it with another classmate. In front of us were 2 computers side by side. Having computers allowed us to see the changes in stocks for many companies much easier as it expanded on both screens. Along with the computer, there was a special keyboard which I have never seen before because certain keys were highlights with certain colors. The instructor showed and taught us how to read a company’s data through their stocks and graphs. This somehow caught my attention and I found interest in this workshop because this workshop allows me to be able to search for a company’s history and what they did to get their earnings. This workshop prepares me to what is to come in the future for I am to find a career in finance. This allows me to have a certain idea of how revenue works and what goes on. Before this workshop, I paid no mind to stocks and revenue reports because I never understood it. After going to the Bloomberg workshop, I can now somewhat understand stocks, revenue reports, and their cause. I have more of a heads up on what is to come and this workshop has made it easier for me when searching for my career.

The Counseling Center

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, I decided to visit the Counseling Center that was taken place on the 2nd floor in the Newman Vertical Campus lobby. They had a mini table set up with brochures and information on the prevention of suicide. What made me interested in going was actually from a song 1 – 800 – 273 – 8255 by Logic. Walking up, they greeted us with small gifts such as a stress ball and a credit card holder that you stick to the back of your phone (I honestly don’t know what they’re called but let’s go with that). Immediately, they introduced themselves and what their role was in Baruch. I was drawn fairly quickly due to the fact that they were so welcoming and how they are important to the Baruch community when it comes to the students’ emotional health. When asked about how a student can overcome their depression, they answered with confident about what the student should do and how they can help. A positive outcome to the Counseling Center is the fact that it is free for all students. They also offer many services for students who are looking for the one that suits them the best. Students can visit the Counseling Center if they are stressed, depressed, or have suicidal thoughts. The Counseling Center is definitely there to help ease their mind. Besides the mass amount of information they presented to us, they also displayed an information board on suicide, that includes statistics, to further educate Baruch students about suicide. At the end of the short meeting, I was content that I decided to go and learn about the Counseling Center and what they do. It is a possibility that I will be visiting the Counseling Center when I need to destress myself in the future. If you need to speak to someone in private about how or what you’re feeling, I highly recommend going to the Counseling Center.
