Last week I attended the writing center for the first time. It was such a positive vibe and learning experience. I had to schedule my appointment with them a week ahead of time. That shows you how many students visit there. Everybody in there is positive and willing to teach you. I will definitely revisit when I have my next paper due. I recommend it for everyone in the school. Also have patience as the line can be long.

Visiting the Baruch Writing Center
Last week, I attended one of the writing workshops that are offered here at Baruch College’s Writing Center.
The Writing Center is an excellent resource available to the students of Baruch College. Prior to attending the workshop, I made myself aware of the services available through the Writing Center. I learned that the Writing Center hosts two workshops a week, with a total of 25 workshops overall. Each workshop is designed to improve the writing skills of those who take advantage.
The workshop the I attended focused on thesis statements. It took place in an intimate and comfortable setting within the writing center. The instructor was very concise and did a good job conducting the workshop. After the hour and a half workshop, I felt as though I had a far better understanding of how to formulate and construct thesis statements.
This thesis statement workshop was particularly helpful to me because I had recently received a critical analysis essay from my English class, necessitating the use of a thesis statement. However, I feel that this workshop had a larger impact on me overall. The importance of thesis statements was emphasized throughout the workshop and I realized that every academic paper that I would write would include a thesis statement. That means that just this one workshop would have a profound impact on the rest of my time as a student and possibly into any future careers.
After the workshop, I made sure to familiarize myself with the other resources provided by the Writing Center. This includes their one-to-one sessions, peer review groups, and written feedback to assignment drafts. With the knowledge of these resources that are available to me, I will make sure that I take full advantage of these resources to strengthen my writing skills and improve my academic performance.
Gaming Club
I had a fun experience attending my first club at Baruch. I decided on attending the gaming club. It was so nice bright as it was colored in bright green. You couldn’t possibly miss the room, that’s how bright it was. Seeing such an enthusiastic group in there made me feel so comfortable. Everyone seemed as if they were having fun.
Attending this event was a good decision that I made because it helped me become more familiar to the school. Everyone in there was so friendly helping me around and giving me advices. I had a kid explain to me how likely my next four years at Baruch will be. He related to me and gave me couple advices that I should note. That helped a lot because I had someone look out for me.
I also learned how to play pool. It was so fun and cool as it was my first time ever playing it. I always seen the game going on tv but I had yet given it a try. At first I was awful vas you would expect because it was my first attempt, but the people in there were so nice and taught me how to play and the tricks of the game.
They also taught me about more clubs that’s available and the sports teams because I’m a big fan of sports. Now I know where to go to access when Baruch’s teams will play. I will definately attend several games if I have the time to support my school. I definately advise everyone to attend the gaming club. It’s such a nice vibe.
Visiting the Museum of Modern Art
I decided to go visit the MoMA today in NYC. it was very interesting to see all the exhibitions and artwork they had on display. I saw the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition first, which had a lot of maps and drawings of buildings and museums, as he was a famous architect. There were a lot of cool building models as well. There was a room with the architectural plans for a lot of other museums in NYC, such as the Gugguienham museum as well as a model of it. I also saw the Robert Rauschenberg exhibition, which had a lot of cool paintings and artwork. There were two artworks in that exhibition seemed a little odd to me, such as blank white canvas and three scribbles. I don’t understand how that could be art but it opened up my eyes to how there are many forms of art in the world. There was also a pile of old street signs that were on display. It was interesting to see how many forms of art there are in the world as I’m not so into art so I never really knew so much about it. Architecture is something I never would’ve thought to see at an art museum. This trip expanded my knowledge of what art is and what falls under that category. This is good information to be aware of in the future so that not to limit the word art to just paintings and drawings. It was a fun visit!
