For my academic blog I decided to head out with a couple friends afterschool to the Whitney Museum of American Art . Since we’re lucky enough to be Baruch students we presented our student Id’s at the door and were granted free tickets. The Whitney Museum of American Art is located right next to the Highline so my friends and I got to enjoy a great walk and view before heading in to the museum itself. Once we got into the museum we checked in our bags and stopped at every floor to view each exhibit.  One exhibit that really interested me was named “The Line”. It consisited of a 3D video where there are several people lined up each doing a different action. They appear to be isolated and most of them are either occupied on their phone but they don’t really seem to understand their surroundings. I felt as though this exhibit exemplified the modern era we live in today. The fact that most of us are blindsided and cultiavted by technology that at times we aren’t even truly aware of our surroundings or bigger problems at hand. Another perspective of the exhibit I saw was that we as human beings line up accordingly for our own personal  issues and the video is three dimensional possibly infering the development of technology and making us realize how far we have come and how much more we have to go. Aside from this exhibit there were exhibits that were interactive and I emjoyed the fact that they were interactive becuase many of the painitngs there didn’t really draw my attention. There was an exhibit where we had to take off our shoes and walk on sand along with walking on water making us feel like we were relaxing on a beach and that feels amazing after a long day at school.  The Whitney Museum of American Art is comprised of mostly modern art and offers insight intovarious American artists. I’m not really into going to museums and all that but I thought I would take this tim eto enjoy a new experience. Many of the paintings weren’t as captivating and beautful as I expected but I guess it’s the way you interpret it that counts. I got to see art that I haven’t really seen before and my view on the art differed from my friends view on it which provided me with multiple perspectives. All in all, I really enjoyed this expereince and hopefully I’ll be able to visit other musuems that provide me with amazing artwork such as this one. Moma is next on my list.
