Since I was unable to attend an Enrichment workshop, I decided to fill out the VARK questionnaire, a questionnaire that determines a person’s optimal and preferred style of learning. The questionnaire asked a series of questions posing different scenarios with different options, each option represented a unique style of learning. The option that I picked would reveal how I would prefer to learn for the given scenario. All this data is compiled in the end in order to determine what kind of learner I am, in other words: what kind of learning style best suits me. VARK is an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic, all different styles of learning. My score for the questionnaire came out to be 1 point for visual, 9 points for aural, 2 points for read/write and 5 points for Kinesthetic. The VARK questionnaire determined that I have a strong aural learning preference. This means that learning that involves listening, discussing, questioning and recalling is most optimal for me. The VARK questionnaire also gives strategies for your determined learning style. In order to intake information efficiently, I should do things like attend classes, discuss topics with others, explain ideas to people and remember interesting examples. To study I can put summarized versions of my notes on tape and listen to them and ask others to hear my understanding of a topic. Finally, to improve well on any test, VARK recommends that I listen to my voices and write them down, spend time in quiet places recalling the ideas and practice writing answers to old exams questions. The VARK questionnaire has given me a new perspective on learning and I plan to try out the things it suggests are most conducive to my learning style.
