The VARK Questionnaire

The purpose of the Vark questionnaire is to determine what type of learning style suits you best and what type of learner you are. VARK is an acronym that stands for Visual, Aural/Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. VARK informs you about yourself in ways you may or may not know. The Vark questionnaire can be used to understand your peers and the people you interact with. It has helped people understand each other and assists them to learn more effectively in many situations.

The Vark Questionnaire determined that I was a multimodal learner that incorporated Aural and Kinesthetic learning higher than the rest. I have noticed these traits about myself throughout my years of learning. The teaching I received at Aviation high school influenced many of my learning traits. Being a career & technical school learning how to become a successful aircraft maintenance technician, I had to perform many hand on tasks in order to obtain my Airframe & Powerplant license. I had to undergo various tests that assessed my memory, and I had to pass a practical test that included various hand on tasks. Learning these task were easy to me when I had a teacher demonstrate the task at hand, and provided us with an explanation on how to complete it. The majority of the teachers had demonstrations for us because it was the easiest method of conveying what needed to be done. Throughout these classes my teachers also employed the Danielson method where students would be split up into groups and answer questions amongst each other.  Discussing topics and breaking it down amongst groups helped me learn. I was also accustomed to reading various maintenance manuals and performing tasks based off a manual. Although I was able to complete the tasks reading off of a manual, I definitely preferred learning hands on.  I agree with the way the questionnaire assessed my learning skills because in classes where I learned through kinesthetic and Aural, I scored the highest. The VARK questionnaire allowed me to better understand myself as a learner, and gave me tips on how to become a successful learner. I now know how to make certain subjects seem easier to me and I’m excited to employ these new techniques in my present and future classes.

Good luck with your future classes. Shout out to Sony for helping this young man finding his ideal learning methods. The VARK questionnaire helped me in a similar fashion.
