Chit Chat :) – Student Life Enrichment

It was Thursday just before noon. My friends and i had just left music class and were relieved to start the weekend. I had no plans and my friend Moi is the marketing director of a club called Chit Chat. They were having their first general interest meeting and she invited me. I accepted upon finding out they had Chinese food. I was there early since i arrived with Moi, a person responsible for setting up. WE moved to the room the meeting would be held in, she dropped her stuff and left to recruit more people/ print flyers. While shes away i help the other members of the group set up. I arrange the chairs and charge my phone. Soon after they set up the chinese food and i hopped on the line. It did not even occur to me that i planned to go to the gym within this time slot and Chinese food was literally the opposite of my goal for that hour. I made my plate and being the nice guy i am decided that my friend Moi would be upset if she returned and the food was all gone. So before i even ate my food ( i was very hungry ) i went back on line and made her a plate. I had gotten the last chicken, some rice, and a vegetarian egg roll. I then sat down and proceeded to socialize before the meeting officially started. We did some fun ice breakers such as a version of telephone where we have to act out a word given to us. It was a very fun and interactive icebreaker that made everyone laugh because of how ridiculous it was. After that icebreaker we learned about the club. While learning, Moi had long since arrived and i hinted to her that i got her a plate of food. Her lack of urgency in receiving the food and the fact that she returned with some snacks from Hispanic clubs going on the same day told me that it would be alright to have some of her food. It started with the mini egg roll then it turned ugly. I ate the rice and she saw me eating half the chicken so she knew the deal. It was wrong of me. Anyhow Chit Chat is a club dedicated to breaking down the cliques built by other clubs and inviting all. I am not an official representative yet and may have mis-described the group. However it is open to all and is meant to be a place to talk, network, they have events in the works, and is an overall very social, fun group. By the end of the meeting i asked the president to be a part of the marketing team, to which he directed me back to Moi. I also spoke to another student who wanted to be a marketer for the club. I got his number and have to contact him actually. It being late i helped clean up a small amount and then left the premises having had a very fun time at my first club. I plan to join the black student union also but the day i went their doors were closed so i have to go back. I cant wait.

Student Life Enrichment with Shamsi

So last week my friend Moi and I were really bored, and we had nothing to do after school. We were brand new students to the baruch system and in turn the student life at baruch. Student life was no longer just being a student and getting good grades, going home, doing homework and repeating the process. At Baruch, it’s different, here we engage and socialize and do what we want. It really encompasses the college vision that we here find out who we are as people and what we are passionate about. I knew from the start that I have been in love with business, finance and networking. Something that just so proves that is my love for interacting with people and getting to know them all whilst creating long lasting friendships and business connections. This was brought to life in Baruch for the first time when Moi and I decided that we would explore the school instead of go home and live the boring “student life”. We knew the game room was on the third floor because we have been together a couple times and it’s a great place for friends to associate and just have a good time playing games. However for a person like me, I enjoy having a lot of casual fun and from time to time there are quite a few competitive players in the game room so I avoid it. However we walked around the floor and found ourselves in a very intriguing and wondrous afternoon spent. We wandered to the end of the hall where we had once come to find the legendary free pizza on Thursdays during club hours. We walked into the Jewish club where we had once come for a face full of disappointment when we were told by three (very very cute) girls that no pizza was there for us anymore (It was okay because one winked at me). Today was a Monday so there was no free food, so we continued down the hall until we were at a dead end, then we turned around and were on our way out when we saw a locker room. Intrigued by the idea of a sweaty locker room on the third floor of an academic building where there were students fully clothed and some in suits, we walked right in. Suddenly we found ourselves in a hall way bustling with energetic well dressed good looking students (I knew Baruch was the right choice). Moi had recognized a friend and me being the social butterfly I am immediately shook the stern hand of someone who looked very very respectable in his nice navy blue suit and brown oxfords. I am a man who admires fashion and sees it in others. Turns out this guy was the president of the black student union and once i found out I immediately struck up conversation with the man. You know my networking skills kicking in there. Found out he was on a really strict diet but then his friend showed up, someone on the board of the club, and he disappeared. I asked his friend where he went, one word response, Popeyes. Oh boy, I suddenly got hungry, so the following hour consisted of me barging into club rooms pretending I was interested in their meetings just so I can grab a free donut or something. That was until I started striking up conversation with everyone, some girl about finance, some guy about cryptocurrency, I just got really into the people everywhere being so social. I also wanted to meet a bunch of people who are into business. I literally walked up the first brown people i met and they loved me immediately. Turns out they were the presidents of MBA and MSA, Muslim Business Association and Muslim Student Association. So I guess you can say I spent my afternoon making very powerful friends and connections. Although I am kinda upset I didn’t find the donut with my name on it.

Welcome to UNICEF @ Baruch Workshop

Walking into the UNICEF at Baruch Workshop on September, 7th 2017 was really an interesting and fun experience. When I first walked inside the room where the workshop took place, the members of UNICEF at Baruch welcomed me with all smiles and pizza! One thing that steals my heart is free food. They made me really happy.
After everyone ate their pizza and everyone settle in the members of UNICEF introduce themselves starting with a girl name Joslyn. Joslyn is the secondary of UNICEF at Baruch. Other members of the UNICEF at Baruch are Mina and Alex. Mina is the Vice President of events and fundraising and Alex is the President of events and fundraising. Another member of UNICEF at Baruch is Hidey. Hidey is the Vice President of sponsorships. She works with other clubs to get aid from them, promotes the club around the school, and also get others from different clubs to also help out with events and return the favor back.
After everyone introduce themselves, they went in to explain what UNICEF at Baruch is about and what they do. UNICEF at Baruch is a club to organize students to help the survival, protection, and development of children worldwide through education, advocacy and fundraising. They meet 2 to 3 times per month and host at least 1 to 2 events per month and raises awareness to the children that die every day from preventable causes. Some events they held was “Not an Alternative faces panel for Refugees”, “International food fair”, and “Global show case”. The international food fair was a fundraiser where students bring food originated from all over the world to sell. The Global show case was a fundraiser that showed students art work. UNICEF at Baruch work for the survival, protection, Education and Emergencies for children in more than 190 countries to help all children receive a chance to reach their full potential. UNICEF at Baruch motto is “Every child deserves a fair chance in life”. They work with children that have no funds to go to school. Also that is going through any kind of abuse at home, children that has no home to live in or no food to eat and more. UNICEF at Baruch mission statement is “A college student can have a impact”. They want college students to fundraise for children awareness. After they explained what they do and what they are about, they then moved on to explained how new college students can be active in UNICEF at Baruch. The members explained they are 6 requirements to be active in UNCEF at Baruch. When you finish the 6 requirements, at the end you’ll get a certificate. Then you’ll officially be in UNICEF at Baruch. UNICEF at Baruch is a really great and supportive club. I would recommend this club to anyone who would love to help children in need and need a chance to reach their full potential. I am glad to have a club like this in my school. This club can help me be a better person and help me help others in need during my years in Baruch College. 🙂

Chit-Chat Club

This Thursday, my friends and I went to the GIM for the club chit-chat. At the club, we met the president, Eona John, the Vice President, Michael Greenberg, the treasurer, Gary Jorge, the secretary, Rachelle Hernandez, the consultant, and many more important people. I learned that Chit-Chat is about connecting students and giving them an opportunity to meet new people and be able to express their opinions and ideas. I few of friends from my high school, which I didn’t know attended Baruch as well, were also at the meeting. It was nice to be able to catch up with them and also meet new people and make new friends. The friends in the picture posted have helped me find my way around school, the city, and just someone I can talk to and walk to class with. It was taken by Eona, the president of the club (I didn’t know who she was when I asked if she could take a picture for us). At the meeting, takeout Chinese food as served- consisting of fried rice, fried chicken (which was delicious), spring rolls. There was also soda to drink. Music was played from a Spotify playlist. We played a few games to break the ice and then introduced ourselves and our intended major. The game was like telephone but through acting. The first person was told a profession to act out and then had to show the next person in line while the other people in the group had their backs facing them. This goes on until the second to last person acts it out in front of the last person. Afterwards, the last person has to guess what he/she just saw. If he/she guessed correctly, then the group earned a point. My group sadly, did not win the point but we had a lot of fun acting it out and watching other groups do their charade. Going into this event, I really didn’t know what to expect but I ended up really liking the club and its members for their openness and easygoing attitude. I’m really glad my friend Moi introduced me to her club and that I decided to attend with her and a few of my friends. I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming events.
