Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTC

Resume Workshop

I went to a resume workshop with my few friends. The resume workshop was very helpful and gave a Resume & Cover Letter Writing Guide. A good resume has few important aspects. For example, a resume must be one page, everything should be neat and consistent so it’s easy to read for the employer. A resume should contain these elements: contact information, education, work experience, skills and activities (optional). For each bullet, there should be three parts: an action verb, a specific task that is quantified and a specific outcome or result. For the experience section, list only past and current experiences with date and not future plans. For future needs to revise your resume, you can attend a resume workshop at the Starr Career Development Center or make a one on one appointment with a counselor through Starr Search. Overall, it was a great workshop to attend.

MET

I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on September 21, 2017. This was my first time going to the MET. I never got the chance to visit the MET till now. I went by myself because my friends went last week already. The MET is big. It is like a maze to me, but the good thing was that I got a map. The map was very helpful. It gave me a general idea where each collection is. I visited the Egyptian Art first since I am currently learning that in my History class. I went to the second floor, the European Paintings 1250-1800. The sizes of the painting vary dramatically. Next, is the Asian Art, I saw all kinds of jars, bowls, dishes made from different materials. The Buddha of Medicine Bhaishaiyaguru is fascinating to me because the piece is gigantic and it is in great condition. Finally, I went to the Temple of Dendur in the Sackler Wing. Going to the MET was a great experience.

At Alpha Kappa Psi

I actually don’t know what clubs I should go to. There’s a group of us. We are from the same FRO class and we don’t know what clubs we should join. So we decided to walk in this room on the third floor. First, we are hesitant to walk in because the room was crowded with people. They were serving chicken nuggets and French fries. We decided to wait in line to get the food. I got few pieces of chicken nuggets and some French fries. The room was way too crowded so we stood near the corner. One of the RUSH chairs, Sarah come over and introduced herself to us. She seems like a very nice person. She felt bad and sorry that there are no more chairs and that we need to stand. After like 10 minutes or so, the presentation started, introducing what is Alpha Kappa Psi and everything. During the presentation, one thing that they talked about was how to stand out.
Alpha Kappa Psi is a professional business fraternity. The first chapter, the Alpha chapter, was chartered in 1904 at New York University. There are an active 230 student chapters with 240,000 or more members world wide. Alpha Kappa Psi focused on brotherhood, professional and philanthropy. This isn’t like any college organization because it connects students and professionals together.
I am planned to major in Marketing Management at Baruch College. I want to join Alpha Kappa Psi because I think this club will benefit me in the future and this club seems pretty cool.
In order to qualify for an interview, I must attend 3 events like the general interest meeting, one professional event and one social or philanthropy event. So far I just attended one meeting, therefore I must attend two more in order to qualify for the interview.
