Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTC

Career Workshop

Well, a few weeks ago I attended the Resume Writing Workshop. It was my first time and I was very bewildered when I just saw a bunch of socializing students. Still perplexed, I sat down with my friends since there were no other apparent places to head. Luckily, after a pretty long hour wait, the instructor arrived. I can’t specifically remember her name right now but she did a really nice job emphasizing the purpose of a resume and the dos and don’ts. I did learn a few things about writing my resume as a college student despite my initial motive of completing my FRO assignment. This is a pretty useful resource. The next time I need some extra help in an area, I think I will probably look at the list of available workshops and revisit VC 2-150.

MET the museum

One a few Fridays ago, my friends and I decided to begin our journey towards the Metropolitan Museum. As a freshman at Baruch, I once again scheduled the Global Studies. Being in this class, students must complete at least 2 museum visits and reports throughout the course of the semester. Setting on the idea for early preparation, we step into the uptown 6 train station and took the train to 77 Street. We got a bit lost in the beginning but everything worked out in the end with our great sense of direction. Arriving at the museum, we visited two sites: The Mesopotamia and Ancient China Civilization. I have to admit that although this isn’t my first visit, I still discovered new things. And I also learned that if time travel is ever applicable in the near future that I got to be careful about the time period that I travel back to. We explored around the museum for approximately 4 hours before we, girls decided to end our adventure and head back to our good old comfy homes. The trip was ok, in my opinion. This was probably due to the fact that I went with a narrow perspective, looking specifically for ancient civilization artifacts rather than just enjoying myself. I really recommend the Metropolitan Museum of Art for those who like to learn history visually. The museum is really big and offers a wide variety of galleries, extremely convenient to examine legacies from different regions and eras.

Here a few pictures of the MET from the outside. From the pictures, you catch a glimpse of the beautiful fountain built right outside the MET entrance.

Also a reminder: You must purchase tickets to enter the exhibitions. You can give as much as you like but you must give an amount > 0.

Clubs@Baruch

It’s has been 2 1/2 weeks into the start of college. I had gone around exploring my options for club hours on Thursday (Clubs only on Thursday is one absolute thing I still complain about!) This last Thursday, I had made up my mind to visit UCLA for I heard so much about their club. Well, I especially couldn’t wait to taste the long-heard (few days) delicious food they serve. Upon arrival at their club room, I found myself barely opening the door to a room of packed bodies (don’t worry, alive ones). To my dismay, I saw no open ground for another body to squeeze in. Not wanting to be stuck outside in the hall, I find myself bewilderedly yet hopingly knocking the door diagonally across the hall. (Probably since that door was opened a few times while I was struggling to open UCLA’s door) The door swung opened and there was CCF, the Chinese Christian Fellowship Club, and its president, Ethan. Quietly slipping past Ethan into the room, I heard singing of the club members lost in worship. Maybe it was the singing or the way the others were immersed in their singing, I felt less awkward and out of place. After the worship, their main event unraveled. [Campus Raiders] Tips and strategies to help you recognize all your ‘paid’ resources around campus ground, helping you save some moola in your pocket. Overall I had found the experience pretty pleasant. I guess you can probably catch me going there again next Thursday.

***Some other great clubs I been to are the Inter-varsity Christians Club and Alpha Kappa Psi. Go exploring. (That’s right! I mean you)  There are a lot of wonderful clubs with wonderful people. I’m sure you’ll find the club for you. If not, you can always create a club of your own (Go to the student-life office to begin) and become a president 🙂
