Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTC

3rd blog

For my final blog, I decided to write about the Baruch voices activity. I went to support my friend Carl, because I voted him in lol. While there I noticed that a lot of kids used this to vent about their personal issues and shared some very personal things about themselves. The best ones were either the raps or the ones that were funny, as the serious ones were usually sad and boring. I do not have a picture of me there, but Nudrat saw me there so she can vouch for me.

Blog Post

For this weeks blog post I decided to keep it professional and head over to a museum. I visited the MET and checked out their section on the Hudson River School, which has been coined as Americas first artistic fraternity. The reason why I decided to look at this section is because, ever since my sophomore year of high school, I have been intrigued by the sublime and its effect on people, specifically artists and writers. These writers and artists have been so heavily influenced by the sublime, due to its supposed healing effects on the psyche. I wanted to experience this myself, while going to see paintings might not equate to what these men saw, I can try. What I came out with this is that these paintings had no real effect on me. I felt bored on levels comparable to my anthropology class where I knock out for the whole period. I wanna experience these things on my own, go into nature and jump off cliffs and sleep under the stars. Thats is what I took away from this visit.

Clubs

Am I doing this right? Bach when I first came to Baruch for orientation, my orientation leader led us through the club section of the Vertical campus. While nothing really piqued my interest, most clubs seemed to be incredibly professional frats, and groups that appealed to a certain racial or social group. Finally something caught my eye and made my heart palpitate, what I was looking for. Mock trial. Yes, I know seems its weird that I just thrashed Baruch’s clubs for being incredibly professional but law feels like my calling. So flash forward to last Thursday when I went back to the club section to checkout Mock trial, to no avail. None of these doors had Mock trial printed on their little yellow papers designating the club suites. I must’ve circled the hallways for twenty minutes refusing to believe that my eyes were playing tricks on me at orientation. So I go down to student life to locate the club, again, to no avail. Giving up I go to the FUSION club as I had a friend there. Now I know its weird I spent the bulk of this post focusing on something thats not even the assignment, but bear with me. FUSION proved to be a lot of fun despite the fact that I was the only white kid there. Everyone was quite friendly, and it came off as genuine, that they wanted me to be there. So I was ready for FUSION to be my club for this semester and my gateway to Baruch’s parties. Shifting the setting to today, Nudrat, mentioned that finding all of Baruch’s club was merely a google search away. Doing this I found where Mock trial meets and will be attending this Thursday! While FUSION seemed to be what I wanted, I couldn’t help but join Mock trial instead. But heres a selfie lol. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank.
