Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTC

Majors and Minors Fair

Coming into Baruch, I had no idea what I want to major in. I am still lost and have no idea what I want to do with my future. Attending this fair was somewhat beneficial because at least now I know what Baruch has to offer. After the fair, I went home and tried to research some of the majors to find what I am most interested in. At the moment, I am most interested in psychology, but I do not want to pursue a career as a psychologist because I do not think it suits me. Since that probably will not work out, I thought I could major in marketing instead and minor in psychology since they are interrelated. This seems to be the best option for me, but I still do not feel satisfied. I really want to pursue something that makes me look forward to the next day, something that makes my heart beat fast, and something that I just feel happy doing…but what is that something?

Club Fair

There was a club fair a few weeks ago. At first, I was hesitant to go because I knew which club I wanted to join, the Chinese Christian Fellowship, however I thought I would be missing out on a big opportunity to find that one special club, so I decided to give it a go. Prior to the fair, I sat alone in a random classroom contemplating whether or not I should actually go because although it may not be a big deal to others, the thought of going alone into a place with so many people made me anxious. When it was finally 12:30 PM, I made my way down to the main gym. There were so many clubs around, I did not even know where to start so I just walked around in a circle a few times before I made my way towards the United Chinese Language Association club. I find this club interesting because they have a Chinese learning program, which I want to join because my Chinese is not really good. This club seems cool because although you get to learn a lot through their programs and mentorships, there is also a lot of fun. For instance, they will be having a big Moon Festival celebration soon. Overall, I am glad I took the time to visit the club fair because I got to see the variety of clubs that Baruch has to offer.

MET

Four years. It has been four years since I last went to a museum. I never paid much interest in museums because I thought they are boring. Whenever I went to a museum, it was always with a class, and the teacher would assign us work, which ruins the experience for me. Also, all there is to do is walk around, right? But after my recent trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, I realized how wrong I was. I have been quite stressed recently, so walking around the museum was like an escape for me because it eased my worries. I was able to temporarily forget my problems and focus on absorbing in all the art and learning new information. I am glad I decided to visit a museum because now I know another place I can go to if I want to destress.
