Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DTD

Career workshop

I feel what I felt when I first came to this college, I don’t know what to do in the future, I don’t know what I’m going to major specifically, and I don’t even know what to do with the classes of next semester.

I thought I could have scheduled out my plan after the first semester, but I was wrong. Everything changed, but I was still me after three month of my college life.

Therefore, I went to the career center to see if they could helped me out. When I got there, I found a seat and sat there for 10 minutes. I watched them (staffs and instructors and students) busy walking around and making their plans, telling people what to do and what not to do, and finally one of the instructor saw me. He came to me and asked a few questions about my future plans, then he started to introduce the pros and cons about your future depended on the choices you made. For instance, if you picked a high paid major (for example business) but you didn’t like it much, or you felt exhausted after you got a job, it was obvious that you could have picked something you liked or something better because that was the main point of a real career. People really needed to spent time on planning their future because it was too important.

After all, I think the instructor was right, all his words were meaningful because Lebron James would have gone playing volley ball if he was not that into basketball. We had many choices, but only a few of the them were the right for us. Career was important, but at the same time, you could have made it into something you love so you would have enjoyed it.

Metropolitan Museum of Arts

About a week ago, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Arts by taking the 5 train, which took me an hour and a half to get there. This was my first time going to a museum without the class. Most museums seemed the   same to me because they had all the sculptures and arts and stuffs from the ancient times, if you want me to have fun visiting a museum, that would be really funny. The only thing I felt surprised about the museum was, you can pay whatever price you wanted in order to get the ticket, which means you can pay nothing and get in there all day long. If you really liked arts and archeology, I can guarantee that this is the best place for you. The first part I visited was the Egyptian arts, they had all the coffins and divine sculptures of the king/pharaoh and lots of accessories of the ancient Egypt. I wanted to check out the mummy, but I could not find it, which is really sad. The next part was the Ancient Chinese arts, most of them were religious sculptures like Buddha and some other Buddhist gods. They looked familiar to me because my parents believed in Buddha and they used to carried me around the Buddhist temples when I was young. I picked this Museum because I could finish two assignments by visiting. One was the blog, and another was an essay from my global history class. There was one thing I didn’t understand, this thing, is in the museum, it was kind of funny seeing it there when the rest of the arts were ancient sculptures  and this one looked like some modern stuff. Overall, it was great visiting the museum, I wish I would never have to visit museums anymore.

Joining Absolute Adrenaline

I went to the meeting of Absolute Adrenaline club on Thursday. The reason I wanted to join this club was, it seemed great in the pictures of the club members playing paintball, I had never done that in my entire life. By that, I meant I had never joined a club in high school nor had I played paintball. The first thing we did in the room was an ice breaking game, the rule of the game was to pick a captain, and a guesser, everyone has to follow the action of the captain, the guesser has to guess who is the captain. The game was quite funny, we brought up the mood, and that was when the club member started to introduce what we will do if we joined this club.

As I mentioned, the Club name was what they wanted us to do on/off club time. They did sports like ball games (basketball, volley ball, table tennis, and football, they got the downstair gym as the play spot.) during club time; hiking, climbing, paintball, ice skating and, many others off school or during weekends.

In my perspective, joining a club is a big part of 4 years college life, especially for the first two year. You can make friends in the club, you will meet new people like the president of your club, he/she must be great or how come he/she has a club? The last but no least, you can join a major club like finance major club and, accounting major club etc. In there you will meet people who has the same major as you, you can discuss major questions or point of views during the club, or you can even discuss about the assignments, you will find a brand new world when you joined a club.
