For my third FRO blog I attended Baruch voices and I really enjoyed my time there. Baruch voices one of the best events I’ve attended at Baruch this far. Baruch voices was a showcase where members of different FRO classes presented the monologue they were required to write. I listened to the many kids that spoke and I surprisingly enjoyed most of them. I had come to the event expecting to be bored the whole time and thinking that it was a waste of my time. Surprisingly though I was only bored for most of the time. The monologues that were presented were really creative and were way better than mine. Most of the monologues that I liked were really humorous compared to some of the others that were presented. One of the monologues presented that I liked talked about how much someone liked Popeye’s chicken. Another monologue I enjoyed was form Tiana, from our Fro class. It was really good the first time I heard it, and even better the second time. One of the coolest parts of Baruch voices was the fact that it was a First year-only event. This allowed me to get to know the names and faces of some of my peers. It also allowed me to see some people who I went and graduated high school with. That part of Baruch voices made me more familiar with my fellow classmates of the class of 2017. Baruch voices was a really dope event to attend and anyone who didn’t really missed out.

Monologue
“Joseph?” the professor asked out loud to confirm the presence of one of the twenty plus students listed on the printed copy his roster. “Joseph?” he asked again after being left without a response the first time he asked. The entire class, myself included, looked around for the person to which this name belonged. “Alright, not here I guess” he said before he moved on to the next name on his list and pretty soon he got to them all. At first, I thought that I didn’t hear my name get called simply because I just didn’t hear him the first time. This of course was a possibility as I did have my headphones over my ears. But then I realized that I heard every other name that was called so that couldn’t have been it. It was only after I went through all the other possibilities that began to consider that the “Joseph” he was asking for a moment ago was me. So now I’m sitting in my seat wondering what had possessed this man to randomly choose my first name to be the one that he would skipped over. It wasn’t that hard to pronounce. And while I know that my name isn’t exactly common its close enough to what’s considered correct that he could’ve a least tried to guess. This was almost as bad as never getting to see my name on gift shop items.
Trip to the MoMA
For my second blog post I took a trip to the Museum of Modern Art and viewed the “Is Fashion Modern?” Exhibition. This was my first trip to the MoMA that I can remember and I thought it would’ve have been one of the most experiences I would ever have but surprisingly it wasn’t. When I heard the title of the exhibition, “Is Fashion Modern?”, I assumed it would primarily be about old timey clothes and what they meant to the people who wore them. But instead the exhibition featured mostly pieces of clothing that are still worn today. The exhibition featured items like Yohji Yamamoto (y-3) pieces, a simple white t-shirt, yoga pants, a Bruce Lee tracksuit and sports jerseys. Some of the more interesting items in the exhibition were the three pairs of Air force 1’s, which I learned have been released in 2000+ cololrways, and a set of bandanas on display,I was unaware of how much the meaning behind simple Bandanas has changed throughout history. Another cool thing at the museum was this t-shirt creator that was on display. My trip to the MoMA wasn’t what I expected it to be. I expected myself to bored the whole time when instead I was actually intrigued by what the exhibition had to offer.
NABA General interest meeting
NABA or the national association for black accountants is an organization at Baruch that held its general interest meeting last week. On convocation day, I was approached by a few members of NABA and I was given the same pitch that many of the other clubs and groups had been using all day. But for some reason, the pitch given to me by the NABA members stuck with me throughout the day unlike many of the others I had heard that day and made me want to learn more about the group and what it does. It was because of my peaked interest in NABA and my need to fulfill my FRO enrichment workshop requirement that I decided to attend NABA’S general interest meeting. When I first walked into the room in which the meeting was to be held I was slightly surprised to see the number of other people who were also curious about what NABA at Baruch is about. A few minutes after I walked in the members of the NABA at Baruch introduced themselves and began a slideshow showcasing what it is like to be a member of NABA at Baruch. They showed off their different on and off campus events and their events out of NYC in places like NOLA and Virginia. Throughout the presentation, they made it clear that they not only care about their own successes but also the success of others as their motto is “Lifting as we as we climb!” Overall the experience was a good and I look for to attending any more events put on by NABA a Baruch.
