Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DWB

Student Life

Me and the Accounting Society President Sandy

Hey, my name is Vincent. I want to major in accounting, so I thought I’d go to the Accounting Society general interest meeting. It was actually very interesting to find out what they do. They first started the meeting by giving everyone food, pizza and cookies, and then by doing an icebreaker. The icebreaker was the zoomed in photo challenge so we had to get in groups and guess what the pictures were. It was actually a lot of fun.
After the icebreaker, the people on the board of the Accounting Society told us what the club is about and what they do for students to get them involved in the accounting world. First of all, they hold workshops to help students with the interview process, and the workshop even includes a mock interview so a student can see what they must improve on in an interview. They even hold workshops to tell students what they should be doing each year and what classes to take in order to get an internship and then eventually become an accountant. Also, they hold many fairs and meetings with accounting firms that allow students to talk to many recruiters about themselves, which they said usually leads to interviews. They hold so many events to help people that I can’t even remember all of them.
I think joining this club will provide me with the right tools in order to pursue a career in accounting. Also, being a freshmen and coming to a new school with not that many friends, this club will allow me to meet new people that share the same interests as me. There were so many people at the general interest meeting that I’m bound to have some things in common with a couple of people there besides accounting. This club offers a lot of support in helping students achieve their dream of entering the accounting world. I think this club will benefit me in the long run and help me reach my goals.
