I went to the walk-in consultation that the the writing center offers; it is located on the second floor of the library under the glass canopy at the Reference Desk. It works on a first-come first, serve basis and the consultation lasts for about 20-25 minutes. To be honest, I only went to get this Blog done, but I found it very useful and helpful.
The people there are very nice and so smart, and they really help you with what you need. They don’t fix it up for you obviously, but they just tell you what you need to work on and the areas you need to improve on in the essay you show them. They give very good tips and helpful suggestions and they do help to make your paper better. I wanted them to look over an essay I have to write for my English class, which is a literacy narrative about academic writing and how I successful I think I am as an academic writer. I had the whole paper written, and I thought it was pretty good, but I wanted them to see what I should fix in order to make it the best possible. It was the first paper I had to write for my English class, so I wanted to show my teacher that I am a good writer, so I wanted to make sure that what I was going to hand in was good. The people at the reference desk looked it over and showed me where I needed to improve my writing and gave me great tips on how to do that, and I think it made my paper better.
I think having a place like this at our school is good for students since a lot of people usually need help with their writing. Also, you don’t have to make an appointment so it’s good that you don’t have to think ahead of time to go; you can just show up and they help you. I think this was very helpful in fixing up my paper, and I will definitely use it again in the future.
