Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DWC

On Friday, I decided to stop by the STARR center to see if there were any workshops I could attend, such as the resume building one. I went with my friend Konrad to the office on the second floor near the STARR center. I approached the front desk and a helpful lady asked if I needed help. I told her I wanted some more information on any events or workshops I can attend that day, but she told me that there were none. She helped me with any questions that I had. She then proceeded to hand me a piece of paper with all the workshop dates of the semester. I went over to a table that had countless pamphlets and informational papers that you can take for free. It seemed highly unlikely that you would leave this center without getting any career-related concern or question answered.

There is an Internship Seminar this coming Wednesday that I am genuinely interested in, so I will RSVP for it online at the STARR search. I’ve also used this search to look at upcoming events as well. This website also has a job and internship search for and profiles of different employers as well. I’ve found this extremely helpful as it helps me to know what employers are looking for in students and it will prepare me ahead of time. Although I dont see myself using this resource any time soon, I definitely will be utilizing this heavily within the next few years when I have developed more skills. All in all, I highly recommend any ambitious student to go to the STARR center and ask a lot of questions and I also recommend using the STARR search engine as well!

blog post #2 — student life

Walking around campus, you find that there seems to be more hidden treasures every time you enter the building. There are endless activities on campus and it seems that everyone can find a place that they truly belong in. Not only are there many different clubs and activities here at Baruch, but the actual building itself has a lot of things to do as well. Despite the large and impressive club selections you have here, clubs are not for everybody. I’ve never really been one to be involved in club life, and if I did happen to join a club, I would probably show up to one meeting and forget about it. However, if you aren’t too fond of the commitment of club life like me, it still is a good idea to explore the campus and be aware of the many events and rooms here. One of my favorite places to go in Baruch is the library. If you haven’t used the library recently, I strongly recommend you go! The resources are unlimited and it is a bare necessity when you have an upcoming exam. There are study rooms that you can rent with your friends that give you that extra study silence you need.

There are many cool rooms in the Newman building as well! The game room located on the third floor is a lively space where many different students come here to destress. There is a foosball table and ping pong tables as well. I went with my friends, Thomas and Jose, after class and we were surprised at how many students were there. It seems like a great place to meet new people easily and have fun at the same time. If you are a virtuoso, there is a room full of pianos on the 7th floor! You can practice the piano anytime you want and finally learn that song you’ve always wanted to learn. All in all, even if you haven’t joined a club yet, there are still many ways you can be involved in student life here at Baruch!

I took a picture of my classmates in the very entertaining game room!!!

Blog Post #1 – Academic

Last week, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with several of my classmates. If you haven’t visited and you’re interested in art and history, I highly recommend to stop by. It is one of the world’s largest and finest art museums. Even if you aren’t as passionate for history or art, this museum will guarantee to awe you with its huge halls and breathtaking architecture that you can easily get lost in. (We sure did a couple of times!)

My favorite exhibit in the Met is the European Paintings from the 19th century. I am infatuated with impressionism artists such as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissaro and Toulouse-Lautrec. They all have unique art for their time period and even though some were not recognized during their lifetime, I feel as if its honoring them to appreciate and view their art now. The museum offers everyone the chance to be in close proximity of this fine art that was made way before our time and wea very lucky to have access to this huge collection.

I’ve always enjoyed venturing out into the museum by myself and getting lost in the vast collection of timeless art. However, I found that going with friends to the Met is new experience that was very enjoyable. Coming to Baruch, I didn’t expect to get close to this group of friends as fast as I did. Going to the museum was always a great time, but it was even better to spend time with people that have similar interests as me. It was interesting for all of us view the incredible art and sculptures knowing the history behind it. If one of us didn’t know the background of a

piece, another would chime in and share some interesting facts and history behind it. Again, I highly recommend to visit this museum especially w

ith some classmates! It will be an exciting experience and can even create meaningful friendships between you and your

classmates.
