Last week, I visited the STARR career development Center to seek for advisement on how to write resumes. I found them really helpful as they could answer all my questions regarding how I should start my work, how I should start building up my portfolio and bits of tricks that I can write or do. Although I may be undecided in what I want to major in, the academic advisors told me that it’s ok to be undecided and that I can explore what the school has to offer me such as going to different clubs, attending different workshops and internships. As I asked more questions on STARR career itself, I was amazed at the fact that they provide so much services to offer such as reading and correcting your resume, preparing you for your interviews and you can always go as many times as you want as long as you book an appointment for it and also they are there to just guide you in your development for your future career. I’m also amazed at how professional they are and how they are so willing to help you. I wanted to join the program “let’s get started” but sadly it’s on wednesdays during my math period, however I would love to join future programs that Starr has to offer. For now I’ll be sure to make use of the opportunities I have and probably visit Starr when I’m more sure of what I’m majoring in or when I’m lost like a sheep.

Blog post #2- Student life
On the 7th September, I went to my first General interest meeting at UNICEF. UNICEF at Baruch is a club that has the purpose of helping students and children in need. They do so by organising events to raise funds as well as panel sessions that educate other fellow peers about the how many children are discriminated or ignored due to poverty. I thought that it would be very meaningful to help those children and play my part in the society and hence joined the club. At the first meeting, they introduced themselves, who the president was, what they do and how do they do that. I found it kind of interesting that they organise so many events yearly and that this money would be donated to the UNICEF organisation right after the event ends. It shows that our participation in contributing would go straight to the organisation that does the sending of relief packages etc to children around the world. At the first meeting, we also played some icebreaker games to talk and find new friends I guess. Next week on the 17 October, they would be having a bake sale and the money would go to the organisation and on the 24 Oct they will be having a Halloween bash. Having all these cute events I do hope they can raise enough money for the children in need. Here attached is just a photo taken at UNICEF GIM.

Last Friday, I visited the museum at FIT. Even though the museum was pretty small, it had a number of exquisite dresses, bag and shoes. The exhibition “Force of nature” showed us how nature has inspired fashion designers as well as artists in their creation of such unique pieces in their works. This includes the usages of feathers, fur, patterns and flowers in their clothings as well as hats and shoes. Fashion has always been a big industry that everyone patrons, we may buy clothes, shoes, bags more than once in a year and browse through a vast collection of clothes. This gallery showcases where some designers get their inspiration from, from animals, from the sky and things that are in their environment. It is amazing how creative we can be, turning simple things from our environment into some masterpieces that wows many. I wish that the museum displayed more fashion pieces and perhaps explain to us more about the process of how such statement pieces are created.
I really enjoyed this experience at the museum and will probably visit it again when they change their exhibition.
