Freshman Seminar Fall 17 CMA

SACC

I attended SACC, peer tutoring for calculus 2207. I had to go to SACC due to the holidays falling on school days, I was forced to miss class. I went to the tutoring center and I met with the tutor named Ibrahima. He was very helpful. I asked him a few calculator questions regarding the TI89. I spoke to my professor and informed her that I would missing again due to the second part of the holiday. Upon informing her, I also asked her what we would be learning and what I would be missing so I can make it up either beforehand or after hand. Luckily, Ibrahima taught me how to use the calculator and the methods needed for the exam on October 17.

SACC is a great place to get help in! Whether your struggling or just want to catch up on your work, SACC will help you! SACC’s mission is to help the students of Baruch College to succeed academically and in their chosen professions by helping them throughout their college careers in order to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for future success. In this case, SACC has completed their mission with me.

I will definitely go back for more aid! I am excited to go back in the future!

STARR- Career workshop 10/3/17

Today, I attended a Starr career development center workshop that focused on interview prep. Representatives from Target were there to present the workshop and to discuss what retailers have to say about interviews. They provided some major tips in order to prep for an interview. One of their suggestions included to perform a mock interview in order to successfully get ready for the questions, the employer is most likely to ask. One of the things I learned in the workshop was that the interview process is the most important part because it leaves everlasting impressions of who you are. It is up to the interviewee to create a good first impression that portrays you as the most fitting candidate for the job. The interview workshop tips will resonate with me in the future when I need to apply those tips when I am applying for a job and have to go through the interview process. Another tip I received was to research the job and company before the interview!! I can’t stress how important it is to obtain information on the company before applying and before coming into the interview because ignorance won’t get you the job. You need to familiarize yourself with the company’s goal and mission is before the interview and even before applying for the job.

One of my goals is to practice answering mock questions to prepare myself in case I get called for an interview at any given day, instead of waiting till the last minute and being clueless. This will help me get accepted to my dream job, because the interview can either break or make my way to the job.

I wish to attend more STARR career development center workshop because it will leave a significant impact on my life and future. It is amazing to see what Baruch has to offer! I should take more advantage of the things I have access to at my fingertips that benefit me.

UNICEF- student life (club/ organization)

i

This afternoon, I attended a UNICEF meeting, which is an organization that stands for united nations children’s fund. This is a non- profit organization that provides assistance to children and mothers in the developing countries. On campus, the UNICEF members advocate for helping the world’s children survive. They conduct wide education, advocacy and fundraising activities to benefit UNICEF. It is a very active club on campus that gives meaning to not only the people being helped, but also the ones who volunteer to assist those in need, specifically in third world countries, such as Africa and South America. UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to protects the rights of every child. It works to ensure that every child has a place to stay, nutrition and protection from inequality. It made me appreciate what I have and what others do not. Since I am fortune enough to live in the U.S and I have this wonderful opportunity to aid others, why don’t I take advantage of this lucky chance. What also strikes me is that so many people are so quick to help others, despite how busy they may be.

In order for myself to get more involved, I will attend more meetings in the future to learn more about what is going on and to see if I can help in other ways. I wish to become fully educated in this club to help to the maximum capacity that I could. Another way I would like to become more involved is by following their page on Facebook, to keep me updated on the organization, even when there is no meeting. It will keep me informed on their club’s events, fundraisers and successes.

I am truly passionate and excited about joining this club because it allows me to take initiative on what I can do to help others, and hopefully my other peers will see this and emulate my deeds in order for others to join and help UNICEF!
