Freshman Seminar Fall 17 CMA

Start up Tech Fair

It was November 16, 2017 and I finished class and had nothing to do during club hours. After 9:55 AM math class, I grabbed a sandwich. I decided to just sit in the library and hang with friends. Suddenly, I remembered I needed something for my FRO Blog for the career section. My friends and I decided to hit up a “Start-Up Tech Fair” that was sponsored by Hillel at Baruch. This event took place in the Baruch Multipurpose Room. This was an excellent opportunity to network with individuals and obtain some knowledge on popular NYC Start-Ups. There were many employees from different start-up companies such as OCC, Frist Lex Capital, etc. At the end some girl won a prize which was an Amazon Echo, a great Bluetooth device. Bonus they saved me a trip to Staples and gave out a free folder.

Museum of Natural History

What is there to do when your college is closed and you have no classes? It was Thursday September 21, 2017 and there were no classes thanks to the Jewish Holiday, Rosh Hashanah. Some people spent this day celebrating, while other caught up on sleep. Sleep sounded ideal to me but I decided to go and visit the Museum of Natural History. I texted some friends and we went to the Museum and made a day of it.

Arriving around 1PM, we had five hours to look around. We first went to the space exhibition, followed by the Hall of Biodiversity, North American and African Mammals, and then lastly the reptiles and amphibians. We then ate some street food and walked around. After we left the Museum, one of my friends suggested that we watch the movie “It.” We went to a late-night show and saw the movie and I liked it.

It was a Thursday afternoon and I was sitting in the library talking to some friends. They suggested that we go to the general interest meeting for the Finance and Economics Society. I was hesitant to attend the meeting at first, but I decided to check it out. After attending the general interest meeting, I was convinced and I wanted to join this club because I felt like this club would really help me and it would look good on my resume.

The Finance & Economics Society’s goal is to provide members with the knowledge, mentality, and experience necessary to succeed in their respective industries within the field of Finance. There are many programs within this club. I have applied to be considered in the Mentorship Program within the Finance and Economics Society. This program invites successful financial services professionals to mentor incoming aspiring underclassmen and guide them in the right direction. Mentors will provide guidance and insight to the industries that encompass finance and economics. I am excited to see what this club can do to help me prepare for my career in Finance.
