Freshman Seminar Fall 17 CMA

Baruch’s Amenities

Baruch offers many benefits to its students such as discounted movie tickets and free consultations for anything rangingĀ  from resume help to mental health. One of the amenities that I took advantage was the free museum entrance with student ID.

I of course went to the Natural History Museum because it’s my second favorite NYC museum and is conveniently located. There’s not much to say about the museum experience that would reflect on the quality of Baruch, but the trip there was a candid reminder of how Baruch pushes students to explore the arts and sciences to help improve their lives as scholars and so they have more insight into the world.

Finance Club

Baruch is great because it has so many different clubs and club activities catering to so many different fields of interest. Many of the clubs are actually very educational and help inform students about topics that can help them learn how to invest and learn the basics of bank work.

One such club is the Baruch Finance and Economics Society club, where I’ve spent a few hours learning about the ins and outs of the basics of finance and stocks. The club members were very friendly and there are refreshments offered at each meeting, though they seem too fond of diet sodas. The members and club leaders have created a very educational and welcoming environment which I’m very fond of. The club has taught me a lot and I hope to attend the remaining meetings in the semester and hopefully join them again during the spring semester.

Blog Post #1 Starr Center

One of the reasons I chose Baruch as my top choice of college was that it was very business oriented. Because of this I knew going to Baruch I’d be surrounded by success-oriented individuals and that the school would be very helpful in regards to business related affairs.

Recently I looked over my resume and realized I had a few questions about how some things should be formatted andĀ  quickly remembered that Baruch offers a multitude of services to help its students, including resume help.

I took a visit to the Starr development center and have no regrets. The staff was friendly and when I explained that I was there for resume help I was promptly seated with a very pleasant and informative staff member who thoroughly analyzed my resume and gave me many pointers showing me how I could improve it. It must have taken 15-20 minutes, but I left that room much more informed about resume format and vocabulary than I was prior. I found that Baruch’s many student resources are a big help in getting ahead and I hope to return for my other career questions and needs.

I had forgotten my Fro Seminar book at home so I did ask the nice lady to sign on my notebook and she was very cooperative and happy to help.
