Freshman Seminar Fall 17 CMA

Career Devolopment

I have taken a Focus-2 assessment and it was the first course of action I took, I decided to take a personality assessment I got in comparison to better confirm my thoughts on myself and or get to know new things about my self that I previously did not think was an asset of me. When I was taking the assessment I thought of how in my freshman seminar class that someone mentioned how it was similar to a BuzzFeed quiz, and it felt like one and so it made the website feel more comfortable to use. I also felt like while I was taking I was being asked many thought-provoking questions which I did not know how to fully answer because in some cases it was neither, or both and I knew that I had to choose one and so I kind of clicked which felt right.

However, after I finished the assessment of my personality I learned some things about me that I previously knew. But even though there were things that I knew there were a few that made me go “hmm” as a reaction because it was like, ‘interesting is this true’? But after taking this little assessment I enjoyed it because I am looking forward to this website because so far it seems easy to search through, and navigate around the website.  This was furthered by the fact that I am considering physician and the website said I am someone who wants to make a contribution to society and I feel like that is true, and so if being a physician does not work out I still would be willing to help out the society in some shape or form. Additionally, I am looking forward to continuing using this website because as I said it feels comfortable and I am curious to learn more about myself and what I am interested in

My Visit to the MET

This was not my first time coming to the MET but it was certainly my first time as a college student. I believe I have grown an appreciation for the arts as I grew older, when I was younger I was mostly interested in the intricacy that a work of art needed. To me back then art was more about skill in the sense of portraying an image, now its more about how that intricacy can be used to evoke emotion, which to me is the true purpose of what art boils down to. Additionally as I grew older I grew a greater appreciation to the more “simpler” arts such as abstract art like Rothko’s which can easily entrap me into it pondering life and getting specific emotions which he intended for the audience to feel. Often lost in thought when I look at Rothko I can not help but get completely absorbed and come out much more calmer and relaxed. In the picture I was looking at ancient Egyptian works of art and I just constantly dozed off thinking about how it was used thousands of years ago as an everyday item. Also I saw models of older homes and envisioned life in those situations and I enjoy going to the museum because it can open up your eyes to the many things that we take for granted if you are not in the contemporary art section. Combined with the weapons and tools the hieroglyphics took up most my time at the museum as I spent multiple minutes trying to mimic archaeologist and tried deciphering the writing, but much to my effort I was met with no real progress but I was able to recognize a few images here and there. All in all I look forward to utilizing my student ID to go to the museum and hopefully use it for classes again as I did in High school, not just to kill time.

Muslim Student Association-Eid Party

Today, I went to my first club and had my first real experience at a Baruch Club, I was very excited as a friend of mine is the co-president and so I felt like this was my opportunity to get involved in something I would possibly enjoy. Much to my surprise, I was met with hospitality and not just from the people whom I had already known from prior encounters, but the entire atmosphere of the Multi-Purpose Room on the first floor was very light-hearted and welcoming. Even though it was after 6 o clock everyone there was surprisingly energetic and looking forward to it, maybe they too were looking forward to the food that was coming along with it. However,  I was finally able to experience that college experience which all the Baruch student tour guides were talking about. After this experience, I intend on being committed to a club because I really enjoyed myself, both at the event and also preparing for the event and making goodie bags with my friends during the 12-3 break.
