Start Up Tech Fair Career Post

Today I went to the start up tech fair in the multi-purpose room in the Vertical campus. The event started off with great food and interesting companies. After I got food, I sat down to listen to what the panel had to say. Most of the panel members were founders or important people that worked for their respective start ups. Almost all of the start ups we’re based in Israel but they had expanded to New York for a new client base. The panel was very informative because they talked about advice they wished they had in college and also what it means to be an entrepreneur. One of the panel members said that for him, school was irrelevant and if you really want to succeed, you need to gain skills in business and really work hard. Hard work was one of the things that all the panel members mentioned and dedication is also very important for success. When the panel host asked them how the feeling of failure felt, they all responded in similar ways. Almost all of them said that they have the feeling of failure everyday. In order to succeed you have to accept the fact that you will fail along the way.

This event taught me a lot about what I might want to do in the future. The panel said that you have to explore different things in order to find something you are passionate about. Most of them agreed that coding is a very important skill to learn so I will try to get started with the basics. I wasn’t on planning on talking to the panel members because I didn’t have my resume but they all seemed to say that if you really want a job, you have to show your best self and make sure you act the way you say you do.
