Freshman Seminar Fall 17 CMA

Spoon Baruch club

On Thursday, I went to a general interest meeting for Spoon University at Baruch College. I was interested in going to the meeting because of the fact that there would be free food and also because the premise behind the club was interesting. When I entered, the representative from the club was introducing the different elements of the club and all the different jobs members of the club have. Some people do photography, some do marketing, and some do writing. The meeting was interesting because it reminded me of the type of work Buzzfeed and other media groups create. The representative even mentioned that some alumni that used to be a part of the group now work at Buzzfeed, The New York Times, etc. I would want to join this club because I love food and it would be awesome to write and take photographs of all the different types of food the city has to offer. The people who run the club also seem to love food so it would be cool to see their recommendations for food around the city and to work along side them. One thing I would like to see from the club would be cooking lessons or workshops where they teach people how to cook different dishes. Overall, the club seemed really interesting.

Student Life

I got an email from my seminar’s mentor last week. The introduction of the Latinx Heritage Month event seems very interesting. I thought this might be a good opportunity to explore something new, so I went to the event. This event took place in the lobby of the Vertical building. When I walked into the building,  I saw a lot of Latin America countries’  flags hanging up there. People there were talking with friends and took pictures. People also provide free food and gave out some free t-shirts during the event.  I would like to try the ice-lolly, but  I didn’t have any of them. I was surprised that the lolly was gone so fast. The music chair game was so funny to watch, too. They played so many Latin America’s song, but”Vivir mi Vida” was the only song that I know. I had a lot of fun with my friends on that day.

General Interest Meeting – Adam Tarin

As I enter my first year here at Baruch, I wanted to find a club that related to my interests. In High School there really wasn’t any clubs that did so. Thanks to Baruch’s wide variety of clubs, I found a couple clubs that i’ve been interested to join. I went to my first general interest meeting for one of the clubs i’ve been interested in and it was a fantastic time. The meeting was for PFN or Pre-Recorded Friday Nights, a comedy sketch club that focuses on writing, filming and editing sketches. It is great to know that their is a group of people who are interested in similar things as myself when starting my first semester of college.

I’m quite happy that I went to this meeting as now I have a place to make new friends and have fun on campus. I think that it’s important for me to join a club during the first semester of my college life as it allows for me to participate in the community as well as get to know the community. The event was quite fun as we had many laughs and play many games which makes my Baruch experience more exciting. Overall, the meeting has really made me excited for the future of this semester as now I have something to distract me from the constant stress that comes with school work.

Going to a General Interest Meeting isn’t enough for the ambitious person that I am, so i have spent the first two weeks of me being in the club on creating a logo for the club and now I have become responsible on the fliers and marketing of the club. Hopefully, I do a good job at making my mark on this club and on Baruch as a whole.
