Freshman Seminar Fall 17 EWA

Coca Cola Recruitment Drive

Jackie and I went to a Coca Cola Recruitment Drive for prospective interns recently. We wanted to experience an internship in our freshmen-sophomore year so that we could be prepared for our future.

Our very first inclination that we were entering a whole new world was the doorman dressed in a really nice suit and the secretaries all in professional clothing. While the majority of it might not sound much, the atmosphere also gave us some added pressure. The calm and collected composure of the staff alongside their professionalism was quite intriguing, it made us realize that the business world isn’t as calm as we would’ve thought.

What we did at the office was to learn about the various jobs that Coca Cola emphasize and focuses on, and what we as prospective interns would have to know to obtain the job. While we most likely wouldn’t receive the internship, it still was a fun time for one of our exposures to the FIRE sector.

Metropolitan 101

Two weeks ago, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and I’ll tell you what it was an experience I will never forget. Out of the monotonous time of my classes at Baruch, it was a clean and enjoyable time from the strenuous efforts of homework and midterms.

The historical artifacts from Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt from thousands from years ago has shown the progression and the influence of cultural diffusion from the various historical sites.

Aside from the beautiful artwork and the multitude of people that are there to gaze at art, the subdued voices within the halls makes it even more enjoyable. The variety of art and unique personalities has made it an extremely fun and unique experience.

KPMG Meeting :)

So on Sept. 5th, I attended a KPMG social meeting hosted by the Beta Alpha Psi Fraternity of Baruch and I have to say it was amazing. Aside from the various associates that came down to speak with us, I was impressed by the professionalism shown by the VP co-chairs. They were able to host such an amazing meeting and let us spend time with such qualified people.

  • June
    • An associate that has stayed with KPMG for 30 years and has such a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has broadened my horizons on the values of different studies and ways to apply it.
  • Brianna
    • A grad student who is also an associate for KPMG Metro, the fact that she can do both is astounding. Aside from her witty humor and her in-depth explanations for various things such as meetings, interviews, etc she was a godsend in reassuring me that perhaps I’m at the right place.
  • Sunny
    • The other grad student who is also an associate for KPMG FS. Aside from her amazing hair and blunt nature, she is also extremely knowledgeable about the various services provided on campus itself.

To be frank, I didn’t expect the meeting to be as fun and intriguing as it was. To wear a suit in 80 degree weather takes dedication and to see over 30 people pulling up to the room in full regalia was quite intimidating for a freshmen. But if I had the choice to repeat this experience, I’d do it in a heartbeat!

Day One

9.5.17

College life isn’t as unbearable as I might have originally thought. Meeting a bunch of interesting people within my block has certainly helped with that thankfully. While some of them aren’t the best at picking places to eat, I realize that I can depend on them to lead me to interesting areas to have fun experiences.
