Student Life – Hillel

For my student life requirement, I have attended multiple Hillel Club meetings. I knew about the club before Club Fair took place, so I already have ten meetings under my belt. Hillel is a Jewish student union that has a presence on almost all college campuses. Many people are involved in the club across all grade levels. At Hillel, students discuss different aspects of Judaism and Israel. At one meeting, we learned about how the Hebrew alphabet has a numeric system that includes secret messages known as gematria. Each letter has a designated number. For example, when the numeric values of “mother” and “father” in Hebrew are added up, the sum equals the numeric value within the word “child.” I found this fact very interesting and I plan on attending Hillel meetings throughout my college career.
