We were not allowed to take pictures during the workshop. I decided to go to a Networking workshop for my third enrichment workshop. I chose this instead of other because I wanted to have an idea of the technical aspect of this essential skill and practice. I enjoyed going to the workshop because the information was straightforward and helpful. Although we started later than expected, we managed to complete the workshop. It was Networking 101, therefore we only got an insight of what this practice is about. We were provided a manual that had all the information from the Power Point presentation for us to focus exclusively on the content. We discussed how to take advantage of networking opportunities and how not to make it awkward. We received some advice from people who knew about the topic. The course was taught from our perspective, meaning it focused on what we as students can do when any networking opportunity comes, and how to behave. Another activity we did was to prepare a personal pitch, I had never done one. It was difficult at first but then we managed to design it pretty well. I still think I need to come up with something good when the time comes to introduce myself to someone I could network with. Also, by going to this workshop I realize how many opportunities and workshops Baruch has to offer, and how I do need all these workshops because otherwise I would feel pretty lost in the professional world. I am looking forward to attend more workshop because even if they are short and focus pretty much on technical aspects, they can open paths to more knowledge and to build confidence on me that I could probably survive, again the professional world. I am really glad to attend a school that concerns about this, and I am willing to take full advantage of these opportunities. Something I would have liked to do more during the workshop is to actually practice how a networking interview would go, because again, as they were explaining, is really hard to achieve goals from one appointment and the wrong impression could significantly decrease my chances to build a strong network connection with someone else. Another important thing I learned is the power of Linkedin. I had never considered to create a profile before attending the workshop because I had not understood the potential this social network has to build networking connection. I guess I will attend a workshop that teaches me how to properly created a profile, to avoid any mistakes and wrong impression and expand my networking opportunities. Again, I am aware that I still have many workshops ahead to learn and develop better skills that would allow me to succeed in professional fields.

JOINED THE UNICEF CLUB!
Going to the Club Carnival during orientation day, was really overwhelming. There were so many clubs to join, and the leaders there wanted to drag you to their table and try to convince you to join theirs. Still lost and scared of college, I decided I was not going to join any, and as I was leaving the carnival, I found the UNICEF Club. It immediately caught my attention, due to the fact that I always follow what the United Nations does and I am really interested in working for the United Nations in a future. Finding this club was enlightening, and I signed up with them. I later went to the first GIM, and I loved what the Club does at Baruch.
In short, they fund-raise, organize events and raise awareness of what UNICEF’s role is as a United Nations committee. Once I joined the club, I joined the Events and Fundraising committee. I immediately felt the feeling of inclusion, and found people who had similar interests as me. As soon as the first meeting started, I realized that this club is active, and there are several events that need to be organized. I was excited, and looking forward to it.
The board members of the club are really nice people, they are all seniors, which means, their board seats may be available next year, which makes me think about showing leadership and learning as much as I can from them, to see if I can hold a seat for next year. We are working. Urgently in the Halloween batch what will take place during Club Hours and is a type of celebration. Finally, I can say that this club is going to help me out to survive at Baruch because I found people with shared interests, and I also found a place to develop skills while doing what I like, for an organization I really admire.
Academic
I decided to take advantage of my Baruch ID and go to the New York Hall of Science for several reasons. First, it is close to my home, I had never gone and always wanted to, and finally, because I figured my little brother would like it as well. I’m currently taking chemistry, a subject I’m not really enjoying at all. I came to the New York City Hall Of Science seeking a topic or exhibition that would bring me closer to like chemistry, or being interested in it at all.
Since the New York City Hall Of Science is an interactive museum, learning was not as tedious as I thought it would be. The first exhibition was really engaging, it explores the possibilities of life beyond earth. Using certain chemical explanations of reactions and patters that have happened at Earth, the exhibition was really interactive and presented several hypothesis of how life could be generated at other places in our solar system. The scientific explanations were pretty simple, and easy to understand, which made it easier for me to enjoy the visit. There were several chemistry terms and explanations I was able to understand, and at some point I did find interesting.
Nonetheless, I have always liked Physics and mechanics better, so my favorite exhibit was the one on my picture called Seeing the Light. There were several exhibits about light and other waves as well. Since it is an interactive museum, I got to understand how light travels through exhibits that would have me doing activities and exploring material.
Although it made me feel like a young child, the Hall of Science was an opportunity for me to see that I do enjoy science, it only takes me a more interactive approach, for me to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed those exhibitions. I believe that the greatest effect it had on my academic enrichment was finding out how to access and study science, since I have to deal with that chemistry class on my block schedule.
