First-Year Seminar FMA

JOINED THE UNICEF CLUB!

Going to the Club Carnival during orientation day, was really overwhelming. There were so many clubs to join, and the leaders there wanted to drag you to their table and try to convince you to join theirs. Still lost and scared of college, I decided I was not going to join any, and as I was leaving the carnival, I found the UNICEF Club. It immediately caught my attention, due to the fact that I always follow what the United Nations does and I am really interested in working for the United Nations in a future. Finding this club was enlightening, and I signed up with them. I later went to the first GIM, and I loved what the Club does at Baruch.

In short, they fund-raise, organize events and raise awareness of what UNICEF’s role is as a United Nations committee. Once I joined the club, I joined the Events and Fundraising committee. I immediately felt the feeling of inclusion, and found people who had similar interests as me. As soon as the first meeting started, I realized that this club is active, and there are several events that need to be organized. I was excited, and looking forward to it.

The board members of the club are really nice people, they are all seniors, which means, their board seats may be available next year, which makes me think about showing leadership and learning as much as I can from them, to see if I can hold a seat for next year. We are working. Urgently in the Halloween batch what will take place during Club Hours and is a type of celebration. Finally, I can say that this club is going to help me out to survive at Baruch because I found people with shared interests, and I also found a place to develop skills while doing what I like, for an organization I really admire.

Investment Management Group

I went to a club meeting for IMG, also known as the Investment Management Group.

I went, less because I was actually interested, and more because my friends, Mike and Audi, were going, as well as the fact that I had to wait until 2:55 before my writing class started, so I had time.

The meet itself was interesting enough. It was hosted by a man name Zouhare Al-Baroudi.

The meeting started off rather dull, with all the members of the club introducing themselves.

I feel as though it was meant to be a way for them to build up the clubs credibility, because they all interned for a lot of impressive sounding companies, like JP Morgan, and Goldman Sachs, and a whole bunch of others.

Thing is, it took so long for them to get around that my eyes glazed over by number four.

The total number of introductions was close to sixteen if memory serves correctly.

There were six head directors, a bunch of advisers, and a few analysts.

After the boring part was over, things started getting interesting.

They started talking about what we would actually learn. They held weekend workshops, most of whom anyone could drop by, where they taught essential skills.

The one that I remember, for whatever reason, was that they were going to teach us how to use Microsoft Excel without a mouse.

Apparently, its a lot faster if you just use the keyboard.

I was considering joining, when I learnt just how much work was involved in actually being a member. It was less what I was expecting from a student club, and more like getting a job.

You had to first submit a resume, and then you had to go through an interview.

I thought about it for a while, before deciding not apply to join this year, mainly because it sounded like a lot of work for something I don’t think I want to do.

I’ve decided to attend a few workshops, and if I enjoy it, then I’ll join next year.

On the convocation day, I met the members of Alpha Phi Omega on the club fair. The name of the club attracted me at first. After I learn more about this club. I decided to join it. Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-educational service fraternity founded on the cardinal principles of leadership, friendship and service. I am interested in this club because I would like to do more community service and meet more friends. I think I feel happy and enjoyable of helping people and I like that feeling. I have joined the first GIM and the meeting of leadership and service. I met more members of Alpha Phi Omega. They are nice and lovely. I could feel they are like a big family and I would like to join into this big family. We made bracelets with strings for people during the meeting. I was glad that I could give out my help for people even though that was just a little help. Also, I learned the skill of making bracelets. I was very grateful that I had an opportunity for service.

Since Baruch College is a business school, almost every student comes here for business. I got a chance to do something different from business in this club. However, I think it still has something in common with business. We are doing things that helping people, helping the economy, and helping the world. It provides me opportunity to fulfill my life experience, friendship and leadership. Four years college, I should do more meaningful things to get the best memories and experience of my life. I would like to get involve with this club, to improve my leadership, friendship and service. There are so much work in college and I feel stressful sometime, I feel relax when I am in Alpha Phi Omega and participate in the events.
