I chose the Hillel Club as my first of three enrichment work shops. I picked this club for a number of reasons. First off In high school I joined many cultural clubs to learn about other cultures. My mom has been employed by a Jewish non profit organization for almost the past twenty years. Through her and countless visits to her office and building strong relationships with her colleagues I have been exposed to much of the Jewish Culture. Since this I have almost an inexplicable interest in the Jewish culture. One reason I believe that I enjoy there culture is because although I’m not Muslim my late grandmother was, and their practices are very similar.
Hillel leads to great opportunities for all the students that have passed through there doors. They have Hebrew workshops, which are translated to English for all those who aren’t fluent. Another reason that Hillel gives great opportunity to its students, is because it is the largest Jewish Campus organization in the country. Extended in over five hundred countries, this creates a large network which would aid in students getting jobs and meeting new people all over the country.
Hillel also brings an interesting dynamic to Baruch. On Mondays they have twenty minute meetings in which the bring over pieces of Israel’s culture over to Baruch.
Although I’m not so personally interested into this next part, they do offer a group for Student from Russia, and those of Russian decent. I believe that this is a great opportunity for these students, because being a commuter school, It might be hard to make friends at Baruch, and this somewhat makes it easier for these students.
The Jewish Business leaders section of the club is also a part of my club that takes my interest. This is because the offer opportunities for workshops that help explore future careers, and event networking events to set you up with someone who has a job in your field of interest.
