Career Workshop

There are a lot of career workshops provided by Starr Career Development Center. The workshop that I attended was called “The Spotlight Series: Careers in Start-Ups”. This workshop was taught by professional entrepreneurs from the organization School16. When I came to sit down, I didn’t realize that the professional entrepreneurs who were twins until they told us. Gradually, I found out that they were similar in appearance. They told us a lot of their experience. A “Startup” company is a small fledgling company, which it is a new participant in a business. They stated that there were four stages in Startup. The first one was primary startup stage, which was the idea of the company. The second one was the validation of the stage, which was to raise money to grow, but there was no product of the market. The third stage was the seed of stage, which had something to work and there were more opportunity and higher potential to grow. The last one was the growth of stage, which there were well-paid jobs.

In addition, there were two value pillars of a startup that was product side and business side. In the product side, we need to help build the company like as a developer and product manager. In the business side, we need to help sell the products like as a growth hacker and representative. Later on, they told about the jobs. We need to know the job description and don’t wait for the permission. It is necessary to create link profile while we are finding a job. While we are in an interview, ask questions as many as you can and prepare for the interview. While we put our work experience about the company, which we are applying for on the resume, we can slightly change the information about our position, which we are applying for on the resume. However, don’t lie on the resume.  To sum up, this workshop was a great experience.

Monologue

This is my little story about patience. I was selected into Summer Youth Employment Program, which called SYEP this year. I chose library as my workplace. There was a program in the library called Free Summer Meals. This program provided free lunch for the children at the ages from 0 to 18. My supervisor sent me to provide food for the children. I was always patience to say what we have today and ask the children what they wanted today. In addition, I bent my waist to let the children listen clearly. One day, my supervisor talked to me before the program began. He said I was too patience and the menu was almost the same every day, you didn’t need to bend your waist to ask them. If they wanted the meal, they could choose in ten seconds and they didn’t need so much time. I was shocked at it. Was I very patient? He asked a question given four choices. If you saw a person that wanted to jump on the train and the train was coming what would you do? A: Let the person jump. B: Advise the person to wait for a train to pass. C: Persuade the person to stop jumping. D: Ask for help. I chose C since I thought life was important and we should cherish our life. However, he thought I was very patient. I didn’t know I was very patient. On the other hand, I just thought I did what I needed to do. Patience was important in our life and it could let you toward success.

The Met Visit

Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest museums in the world with the largest number of visitors. It located next to the Central Park. I went to Metropolitan Museum of Art with my friends. The museum has three million pieces of the art collection, which includes the artworks in different periods such as the art of classical, ancient Egyptian art, European paintings from Thirteenth Century to the modern and contemporary, American artworks and so on.

We arrived at the museum at around 12 O’clock. There were not many people at that time. In the middle of the lobby is a large information desk. After we entered, the first thing that we did was to take the tourist map. The location and passages of each hall are clearly marked on the map. After we had taken the map, then made sure of the visiting route. We prepared a few minutes of planning to determine Chinese Art, European Paintings, and American Art exhibition halls were our main line. We visited a lot of artworks, but I’d like to point out that the 217 Exhibition Hall in the Asian Art was called Astor Court. When I walked in, it gave me the impression that was the ancient Chinese architectural style. From the doorway, it gave the impression of Suzhou Gardens. It was modeled on the Suzhou Nets Garden Palace to build a courtyard of China Ming Dynasty. Then, I searched online on the construction of the courtyard. Patron Astor spent his childhood in China, so the Astor foundation built the courtyard as a gift to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The courtyard was officially opened in 1981, and the building was completed by twenty-six landscape builders from China. The courtyard of the palace called “Mingxuan” displayed furniture of China Ming Dynasty. Visiting museums is a way to nurture and observe the nature and society. By watching the artworks, we could know history, humanity, scientific knowledge of different periods.

Chinese Christian Fellowship

Baruch College has over one hundred and sixty clubs and organizations. Each club and organization has its own characteristics and develops different interests for students. Most Undergraduate Clubs meet on Thursdays from 12:40 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Chinese Christian Fellowship is one of those clubs and organizations. I got to the 10th floor early, but the general interest meeting of clubs hadn’t start yet. By chance, I got Chinese Christian Fellowship’s little publicity paper. At that time, I hadn’t decided which club to go to. I chatted with my friend when we had a round trip on the 10th floor. When we walked to Room 10-140, we found that the meeting was about time to begin. At that time, I walked into the room of CCF (Chinese Christian Fellowship). The people who stood in the front of the door were very nice and enthusiasm. They invited me in and sat down to have a look. I accepted their invitation and had a seat.

In the beginning, the president told us a cool joke to ease the atmosphere, but I thought he was trying to relieve his pressure. We began to line up for lunch. We made a prayer before we ate. The prayers said “Pray for food, pray for those who prepare food. Thank God for giving us food and keeping us all together. Amen.” When we were about to finish, the president walked over to everyone with garbage bag and said, “Have you finished? If you finish eating, you can throw the rubbish here.” By this action, he was so conscientious. The meeting probably had three major parts. Frist, play games. The game rule was if you lost, showed off your talent. After several rounds of competition, one man lost, and he began to sing. It was very fun. Second, sing. We started singing songs about Christian. Some songs, and even created by member of the club. Third, campus raiders. One member talked about the benefits that Baruch students had and the conditions at Baruch College. What’ more, prayer is the act of actively communicating with God or spiritual individuals to praise, pray, repent, or express one’s thoughts or visions. Knowing something about Christian is a good experience. And it is a good time to meet new friends and broaden one’s horizons.
