Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC14

STARR

I went to STARR career a while ago for the resume workshop. I realized how bad my current resume was which I made like 2 years ago. They helped me edit it a little but I had to leave soon after. However I learned that I need to add a lot more things to my resume. My resume was all over the place and nothing made sense. I barely had any things to put in my resume. They gave me a basic outline for my resume. In the little time I was there, I learned to make my resume more appealing and detailed. I came home and somewhat revised and edited my resume as best as I could. STARR definitely helped me improve my resume. Also I will be going there again to find internships and job opportunities in the future because it is a very useful resource.

SACC

Before the calculus midterm I went to student academic consultant center because I knew I was going to need all the help I can get. Math always goes over my head and it is very hard for me to understand it.I went to SACC after making an appointment and my tutor was really smart. She explained the concepts very clearly and I was able to understand it all. I specifically needed help with marginal revenue and continuity. She was very knowledgable in the subject she was teaching which made it easier for me to get everything. This definitely helped me get an 88 on the calculus midterm.I expected higher but this was still a pretty good score. I will definitely be utilizing this free tutoring service. It is a great resource on campus for people like me who are always lost in class.I took a picture and covered my face because I looked weird.

Bangladeshi student association( BSA)

Today I attended the Bangladeshi student association. I saw their club last thursday on the second floor during club hours. They were handing out fliers and served cha(milk tea bengalis drink) to anyone who stopped by. I was interested so I went to the meeting today. They were all very happy and friendly people. My friend Sadia and I spoke to the president of the club, Lamia and she was very kind and generous. She answered all of our questions. This club will help bring me closer to my bengali roots. Hopefully I will get to meet more fellow bengalis who go through the same things I do at home and at school. They have a lot of great events planned out for the near future which sound like a lot of fun. In addition, BSA raises money to give back to the less fortunate in Bangladesh which is something I am looking forward to doing. I want to become a better person and finally start giving back to those who need it most. I want to become a part of the board for BSA and they have a lot of openings. This will improve my leadership and communication skills.  Although, I could not stay for the entire duration of the meeting, I enjoyed the little time I spent there.
