Choosing a career activity for the blog post was rather challenging as I wanted to go in a group. In this group, we faced difficulties such as attending a career workshop that fits all of our schedules and “Small Talk- It’s a Big Deal” workshop was the one. The issue was that the workshop is scheduled rather late so we would be getting home around 8 which poses an issue of limited time for studying for our political science. However, we didn’t let that stop us from having fun and learn new things. Going with friends was an excellent choice as the circumstances allow us to be slightly goofy and elevate the positive vibe of the room. With a single joke, we were able to transition from a boring small talk lecture to a fun conversation. People participated more often and the activities allow some of us to be more comfortable in our small talking skills. We learned about the effects of a small talk and how important it is to use small talk to achieve the results you want. At the end of the day, I walked in to the workshop thinking about how it’s a drag and come walking out without a single regret. This workshop not only teaches you how to utilize small talks, but have fun in doing so. I strongly recommend anyone to attend in their free time if they’re ever bored.

Last Tuesday, I was able to join the Hong Kong Club for my freshman seminar assignment. My friend was actually in the club and he introduced me to the important members who are very amiable. I was able to have a long conversation with Tony, one of the chairman of the club, who told me about his experience in the club and his experience of college in general. He then recommended me to join the club’s second general meeting where there are going to be a social gathering of incoming members. Missing my second blog post, I’ve decided to attend the meeting and write about my experience there. One thing I want to say for sure is that the meeting was the best meeting that I had ever attended in my life. Jokes were flying everywhere and there was a defined line between good jokes and jokes that went too far. Tony gave us incoming freshmen heads up on the good professors and even taught us how to twerk (we had a crowd gassing it up and he actually did it). The event allowed the new members to bond with Cantonese style food and games that allowed anyone to play (there was white members as well). I was able to make a couple of new friends and watched my friend attempt to pole dance for telephone charades. This meeting lit up my Snapchat story with goofy attempts to describe words with our bodies and funny remarks to throw off the enemy team. There was a lot of new people opening up to the crowd as the games progresses and eventually, even the most timid guy sitting in the corner tried to twerk in charades. Final game was beer pong (without beer), tongue twisters, and matching group poses. All in all, I decided to join the HKC and become one of their active members.

I was busy everyday except Saturday. Even on Saturday I was quite busy, so i had to pick something and do it on a timely matter. Picking a museum was quite easy. My friend (or my photographer) and I were racing against time so we had to choose the closest museum in Brooklyn which was obviously Brooklyn Museum. Located near Prospect park, Brooklyn museum was featuring many deep topics such as the black movements and suffrage (which I end up not visiting). What intrigued me was the things they have on display. Things that are quire ordinary in the modern world we live in. One example of this was the chair that was on display. I was baffled upon the fact that a chair that looked like it came from Ikea was on public display. Nothing seemed special about and nothing significant was featured. What was special about the chair was the fact that it was so ordinary. Besides the chairs that i saw in the museum, I was able to see miniature models of houses and environments. These models was so realistic that I had to take a Snapchat about it and show everyone “my magnificent new home”. Overall, my experience in the museum was well spent because i was able to update my profile picture after 108 weeks of the same old picture of me and my Asian Youtubers. I also made sure I took a picture of proof that I went to the museum.
