On November 15th I went t the Metropolitan Museum of Art. To start off I would like to say how enormous this place is. In the museum I explored the many interesting galleries and exhibits. One thing that I found most interesting  was the American wing. This wing had quite a number if important historical artifacts and antiques that are probably no where else in the United States. Another exhibit that really caught my eyes was the ancient greek and roman sculptures. Greek mythology and history always fascinated me and seeing these works of art up close and personal was quite an experience. These were sculptures that I had either read about or only seen pictures on. These pieces seemed to be crafted to perfection, and all of their details perfect. However something else that caught my attention from the start was the, pay what you want, pricing model. This huge museum is operational based on essentially donations, and it is meant to be accessible to anyone who wanted to go. This museum was also huge and I am certain that I did not finish exploring it. Which is what will motivate me to go again. Next week I will be going to see an opera there as well. It will be for my music class, so it will be another great experienceThis image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Either add alt text or mark the image as decorative.

Career Development

On October 5th, I attended a Starr Career development workshop. It was a panel involving people from the car rental company, Enterprise. Interestingly enough there was an alum there who talked about his experiences at Baruch and how he used the resources at Baruch to help him land internships.  The panel was mostly asking questions to the representatives. I learned that enterprise is a family owned business and their management internship really helps a lot of people advance within the company. The alum said that he got the internship through Baruch at a career fair. It was interesting to see how these people were being promoted in as little as six months. One representatives also talked about how he wanted to go into stocks but hated it and went back to enterprise. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. First FRO blog post student life.

On September 7th i went to a general interest meeting held by Alpha Kappa Psi, who are one of the professional fraternities in Baruch. The general interest included a video made by the club members. They all gave us a little information on what the club is about and what we should expect if we wish to commit our time and effort to this organization. They said that they placed a high emphasis on philanthropy, and that’s when they proceeded to tell us that the activity for that club would be to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a homeless shelter. It was quite an interesting experience. With about 50-60 people working together in making these sandwhiches, most of whom did not know one another. This experience has helped me in my first year at Baruch because it gave me an insight to what fraternities really are like in Baruch. Most colleges have those crazy party fraternities, but the ones here are contributing something positive to the community. This also helped me understand what club hours are typically like in baruch. The whole place was bouncing with music and it was overall a positive attitude. Baruch seems like a friendlier place. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank.
