On Thursday, I attended the Majors and Minors Fair which was located at NVC in room 1-107. I wasn’t there for the whole event, but I was able to stay for a good amount of time and learn about a few majors and minors. As I was about to enter, two people were outside of the entrance handing out different papers for the fair. One paper was basically telling us about the majors and minors that are in this college. Some minors that caught my interest are photography, psychology, and mathematics. These are the ones that I might take a further interest in learning about because they sound fun. Another paper was just a response survey about my reactions to the fair. In the fair, I first went to where accounting was because that is my intended major. I also went to the 3 minors that I mentioned before to learn more about them. I’m really glad that I went to this fair because I was able to discover the different options there are in Baruch when choosing what you want to study.

On Sunday, I went to the Museum of Modern Art for my academic workshop. Even though museums are not really my thing, I still get to learn a thing or two about their different kinds of exhibits and galleries. Museums actually have a lot of interesting things in them and you just have to give them the chance to prove themselves. At the MoMA, they presented lots of galleries and objects that were made in history by famous people. Every floor had galleries, but they were each represented by a different time period in history. Also, there were many different types of painting shown on each floor. There were abstract paintings, oil paintings, watercolor paintings, surrealism, and many more. The exhibit on the 6th floor was the one that caught my eye out of all the floors because it was about fashion and I prefer to look at clothing more than paintings and objects. It showed how clothing was designed back then and comparing it to how it’s made today with different styles and materials. A particular gallery that stood out from the rest for me was Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. This stood out to me because you don’t really understand the purpose of the painting and that’s what makes it more intriguing. Overall, I had a nice time looking at different galleries and exhibits from this museum and I would definitely come back someday.

On 9/7/17, I attended an event hosted by the United Chinese Language Association located in North Vertical Campus in room 10-175. When I walked in to the room, it was filled with an amicable atmosphere and the people there welcomed us like we were their guests. Something I noticed was that there was a lot of Asians in a small room.  The members of the organization gave us a brief summary about their identity and their purpose. Their purpose was to introduce or have people around Baruch campus familiarized with Chinese culture and they do this in different ways like talking with new members, getting involved in activities, etc. After that, we played 2 games together. It wasn’t so much about what the games were, but how the games brought people together. Although I didn’t speak at all, there was a lot of communication and teamwork that I could see during those games. It was nice to see how involved everyone was and it definitely shows that UCLA knows how to make new members comfortable. After that, food was served and everyone was having a good time. Overall, this UCLA meeting was a satisfying one and I would recommend others to go join. The good thing is all races are welcome and you are guaranteed to have a great time.
