Fot my 3rd and final blog post I would like to write about the study abroad fair I attended for my academic enrichment workshop. I didn’t really know where to go at first since the signs on the booths were not very clear. It seemed as if they focused more on visually enticing you with graphic design and pictures of the locations around the school in an effort to get you to sign up with them rather than tell you exactly which booth was for what school or area. Luckily the reps themselves were helpful enough. So i started by simply going from one table to the next sequentially, talking to reps about their schools and where it is, but also the sorts of areas I was interested in. The reps were nice enough to, based on my preferences, point me in the direction of the schools that were situated in the areas I cared about. So I promptly headed to the booths for the the university of Paris, where I was introduced to some lovely french students from the UP who walked me through all the various attractions around the university. The rep himself was very helpful and informative, gave me plenty of info on the various programs available for Baruch students none of which unfortunately were open to first year student. But nonetheless he gave me plenty of pamphlets detail how I could join those programs and when, going through all the various requirements i would need to meet. It wasn’t until about half way through the conversation that he let it slip that he was actually originally from morocco the conversation promptly turned from about education to just a casual conversation in arabic about morocco, the cities we were from. Overall the fair was fairly successful I would say, and pretty enjoyable personally.

Blog post #2 Career
For my career enrichment workshop I decided to attend a resume building workshop organized by sigma. Now while I say “decided to attend” it’s more like I just followed a group of people from our class to an event that they said had something to do with resume building. Turns out it was a workshop delivered by Starr but organized by sigma for sigma members only which, seeing as we don’t even have GPA’s yet, none of us were. After some coaxing though they agreed, or I should say the one teaching the class from the starr center agreed, to let us attend. The event itself was fairly standard. It was an hour and a half class about resumes. What to include and how to include it, what not to include and just a general overview of what a resume is and the actual purpose of a resume. The material was fairly detailed and nicely organized. The instructor seemed like she knew what she was talking about. Although she did ask for examples from the group a little too much given how unwilling the sigma people were willing to participate. Luckily the FRO group were there to chip in, which she seemed pleased about. Overall it was a successful event. I learned some valuable skills for improving my resume building abilities and even learned a little about sigma.
Blog post #1: Student Life
For my student life event I ended up attending the women’s battle of Lex on Feb 16th. Now although I have attended school sporting events before, I had never been to any Baruch games so I didn’t really know what to expect going in. The gym wasn’t as packed as I thought it would be which was a pleasant surprise. This did not mean the crowd was any quieter than I expected tho, far from it. In fact there was a whole section filled with Bearcat cheering squads. Guys dressed in nothing but jean overalls and blue helmets stomping, cheering, chanting and just generally reveling in their school spirit. The pre game announcements and player introductions were greeted with massive cheers and even some catcalls. Although most of the energy was centered on one side of the room, it still was more than enough to make you feel like you were at a genuine college sporting event. Unfortunately, the game never really managed to live up to that hype. The first two quarters were fairly light on score with plenty of missed shots, both teams scoring about 20 points between them. Brooklyn college maintained a fairly solid lead throughout the game pretty much, leading the first two quarters by around six points. Once the third quarter began though it started to seem like the bearcats were running out of steam pretty hard. Seeing their opportunity, the Brooklyn college team managed to extend their lead to about 20 points, a gap which the bearcats never managed to close with the game ending at 65-47 for the bulldogs. Overall, although the game might have been underwhelming it was still decently enjoyable to watch, coupled with the energy and fun of the crowd I would say I had a fairly good time.
