A Price for Everything

A lot of kids dread of becoming famous actors/actresses, artists, or athletes. Many of these famous people started from poverty as well. Countless athletes and artists come from poor backgrounds and made their way into fame with their athletic abilities or artistic talent. However, what is the real cost of stardom? The flashing lights of paparazzi and constant media attention may seem like something you want, but we wouldn’t know what it really feels like because we have never been through it. This movie will star a young adult in a poor neighborhood with dreams of making it big in the world. Drugs and crime are surrounding him, and he can very easily fall into that lifestyle. However, he uses these experiences into his music and that is ultimately what makes him successful. But as the movie progresses, so will the main character. He begins to act differently, and those who are close to him notice the changes as well. This is similar to the movie “A Star is Born” when Lady Gaga becomes extremely famous and begins to change her image in order to appeal to her fans. However, in this movie, the main character will realize his changes and realize that he does not like the attention he is receiving. He misses having his freedom without cameras always flashing, or people interrupting him whenever they see him on the street. He wants to go back to his roots (not necessarily the crime aspect, but the “lowkey” lifestyle where he was virtually unknown).

This movie will be for audiences between 13-30 years old. I want this to be the target audience because within this age range, many people still have dreams of becoming famous. However, the movie is not meant to discourage people from wanting to be famous. Many movie expect to have a “happy ending” where the main character accomplishes his goal. But in this film, the ending is not necessarily a “negative” ending, but rather a “realistic” ending. Personally, I enjoy fictional movies with superheroes and monsters, but I also enjoy a movie that is realistic and shows something that is actually relatable to a wide range of people. For example, many time you see a realistic fiction where the high-school protagonist capturing a serial killer by conducting his own investigation. Although this could happen in reality, it almost never happens. However, a person becoming famous, especially nowadays with the rise of social media, is a very realistic situation that can happen.

Hey Jason! I really like your approach to this film, it kind of reminds me of another film about the famous singer called Rocketman. The film followed the story of how Elton John came out of poverty and after living a life surrounded by paparazzi’s, he decided to go on rehab for his drug addiction and live a low key life. I like your approach of explaining the mentality of a protagonist going through fame and hope you implement some imagery in it. I look forward to how your film progresses!

  1. What’s up Jason,
I really liked this topic and it wouldve been my second choice for the assignment. I like how your ending is not a positive ending or a negative ending, yet just a depiction of something that can actually happen.

    Hey Jason!
Good movie! Fantastic movie! I’ve seen that, too. In South Kore, in particular, there are a lot of pressures a celebrity has to go through. There are a number of cases where they commit suicide. The odd thing here is that certain people are dying because of drug use. However, there are hardly any drugs problems in South Korea, but they commit suicide because of the attention and hate they get as a celebrity.

  2. The desire to become someone from nothing usually requires a lot of hard working and perseverance in order to achieve that objective the price might seem somewhat high but the pay off is going to be even sweeter but in reality that is not applicable for every person

  3. Hey Jason, thanks for sharing. I really like your vision for your movie. In the age of information, the Internet made countless stars. If you ask children at your house what you want to do in the future? you will most likely get answers like I wan to be a Youtuber or game streamer. Many people only look at the good side of celebrity and did not know the negative effects of fame. If being famous can solve all issues why do many celebrities still facing issues like drug and depression? I hope your film can educate more people on the topic of fame.
