The style of my first assignment video was really artistic but also complex. There’s themes and ideas that aren’t too clear, but connect with each other and still paint a picture, so even though I’m no earl sweatshirt and I won’t be layering the video in some crazy depth, I’m still going to try to put layers in the video. I’m going to try to find a way to use the animoto gifs and incorporate it into the character’s reality as his way of coping with whatever is plaguing him. I want to make it clear how they relate to each other, and the gifs can maybe be used as signposts of the characters mental health. Since the auteur I chose was Fincher, I’ll try to emulate his genre of psychological thriller within the trailer by placing the character in a journey that calls him to question his reality and some other things. I’m not going to use any music, but I really like the way Earl throws in sounds like birds chirping, ocean waves, water dropping, wind, etc. so I’m going to be using things like that as my background sound. The general script, if based on assignment 2 research, will be a man/boy who struggles to deal with his own emotions in the wake of his brother’s disappearance (to make it a bit personal) in the midst of quarantine. As a male, he struggles to figure out what to do to deal with feelings of guilt, anger, sadness, when faced with the stigma of voicing himself. He has another younger brother who he believes shouldn’t see him being weak, thinking it’ll affect his mental health and emotions as well. He doesn’t yet understand what happened, and this mystery only digs him deeper into a hole. He’s alone and feels alone, and isn’t willing to reach out or respond to friends and those wanting to help. I don’t know if I should connect the disappearance to them or keep it a little separate so they wouldn’t be justified in blaming themselves somehow, even though they will try. The structure of Earl’s video was like this, from how I understood it: Opening energy, abrupt calm, first sign of the journey, and then delving straight in. The journey moves, relationships are structured, signs of pain, then pain, then healing and growth, then death (now that I think about it, the video actually begins with birth and ends with death. Interesting.). That’s pretty much what I’m going to do here with this character, and I’m not sure if by trailer we mean a glimpse into the story so don’t tell the full thing, or a quick trailer of what the movie is, like a summary, orrrr a short film-ish “trailer”. I don’t know, this is just the test plot. Once I’m recording it’ll be better.
In terms of research elements I want to incorporate, It’ll mainly be symptoms men experience when grieving, and stereotypical examples of what men are supposed to be and act like and how that contrasts with the character and what he wants to do. I think I’m going to name it Crybaby

What a great title, it really brought me in and actually represents what your film will be about. I also love the way you want to deal with emotion, it definitely feels like one of the most realistic I have read so far. Can’t wait to see the trailer!
Hello Yaseen
What an interesting topic you’ve chosen to write about! Having people you can confide in is very important in life and I think part of growing up is realizing that you dont have to be alone. Your project looks very promising.
Hello Yaseen
I liked the fact that you were thinking about the characteristics of a guy. There are a lot of debates these days about women’s roles and how they should have their own personalities rather than sticking to one gender. I think it was a good thing that you were going to do it, and I’m very interested in what you’re going to write.
Emotion in general are part of the our life and how we deal them makes a difference in the long run it is perfectly ok for people to express their emotion and bring out what was holding them back after that they feel a relief from within
Hello Yaseen! I really like your story. I feel a little identify with what you’re bringing here. The fears, sadness and guilt that people have inside and sometimes don’t know how to bring these emotions out. I feel we both are going trough a very similar path on doing this trailer.
