After completing my video, I thought my video was going to be the best one in class. I was very proud of my work. But then after looking at other people’s videos, I realized that my video was just average. It was a really humbling experience. Special shoutout to Yaseen’s trailer for putting me in my place and having so much thought, creativity, and commitment in his video. It was also just fun to see the creativity of others and how they chose to portray their ideas. Through this assignment, it really opened my eyes to “trust the process” like how Prof. Graves has been saying. At first, many of us chose music videos from songs that we all enjoy, without much thought, and just went with it. Then through the process, it led to our videos having much deeper meaning to them as many of them are based on real societal problems. I also like the wide range of issues that many of us chose to expand upon. From racism, to mental health, to self-care, to gun control laws. All of these ideas sprouted from a simple music video. I also want to give a shoutout to Grinald for having the most original idea (in my opinion). His trailer reminded me a lot of The Dark Knight Rises, when Bane takes over Gotham and basically transforms it into a communist city.
