Learning by doing
This fast summer term, you participated in a full arc of critical thinking in this course. You utilized several modes of engagement with ideas to craft analytical and inquiry-driven work, and finished with an exploration of the use and applicability of your writing into other rhetorical spaces. But, mostly, you wrote. And that’s the number one way to become a better writer: by writing. Reading—in order to get not only the ideas but the sounds of different kinds of language in your head—is a close second. That’s the class you’ve been in: we’ve studied composition and rhetoric—in theory and in practice.
Blog 5 Prompt: explore a gallery of remixes, leaving comments
Read at least ten submissions and leave a comment offering a meaningful response to each peer’s. Prioritize entries with fewer comments. Click here to access the Core Assignment 3 submissions.
Your comments may:
- Start a new thread
- Or reply to a thread someone else has started
Your comments should:
- Remain complimentary and positive
- Be specific: refer to at least one specific aspect of the student’s work. Don’t just say “great job!” or “this was a great project!” Refer specifically to the project somehow.
2. Additionally, post a 500-word reflection on the experience of reading your peers’ ideas, and make a few shout-out to ones that you liked. Post it as a blog post labeled “Blog 5.”
3. As your Thursday commenting deadline, return to your own Assignment 3 post and leave at least 8 replies to comments on your work. You can do what you like with these comments: thank them, reply to questions they have, or talk about an idea they raise. Stay positive.
I will review your comments to make sure you have read and discussed each submission.
Leave a comment (here, that is) that gets started: When you are done doing this, leave a comment giving a shout-out to a single project you really like among the Assignment 3 submissions—by someone else in the class—and, very briefly, write why you like it.

My favorite submission was from Kenny on Astral Realization. Allowing us to follow as Sarah grieved and we felt bad for her to her realization what her worth was and supporting her confidence to stand her ground against the toxic relationship she had. I more commend the thrilling aspect to the storytelling, making an eerie feeling as if there was gonna be a bad outcome to the ending.
Leonard’s story particularly relates to what people go through during this pandemic. Retrenchment due to various reasons is a norm by corporations and institutions in a bid to stay afloat, and it has affected employees directly or indirectly. Incorporating humor was a nice touch. You also show if how, through love, success can be achieved. This encourages and gives hope to individuals experiencing the same issues currently.
Shoutout to Yaseen and his trailer for “Crybaby.” I like how he really committed to the movie and even shaved his head for the project. During the bulk of the pandemic when I didn’t leave the house for WEEKS, there were many times I was going insane and close to shaving my own head, but I always backed out. So props to Yaseen for actually doing it!
I really liked Jacky’s piece. I even tried incorporating parts of the theme he had into my video but I think he captured it better, and it’s short and sweet. I liked how he used recurring images as well, and was just overall able to pull of his main idea within the trailer without giving up everything about his story. I think the most impressive part of it was how well paced it was even with the short timeframe it had. Emmy Nomination 2022 let’s go.
I gotta say I really liked Grinald’s. Not only I was interested in the topic beforehand, but the clip that he made was a strong piece. I loved the pictures that were meant to be Joe Steel, as well as the contrast he created with showing calm pictures of RI before and then chaotic pictures after.
I like Ikra’s project “Perseguir”. She talked about the effects of drug cartels in Colombia especially on the youth. What I like about her trailer is how she was able to set a mood that perfectly reflects the genre of the movie. The soundtrack she used and the images created a feeling of danger.
One project that I liked was “A Price for Everything” by Jason. There is always something you have to sacrifice when there is success. Whether its time, money, or dedication or whether its relationships, sanity, or privacy. Jason’s film clearly shows these sacrifices when someone achieves fame. Even when someone is rich and famous, that does not mean they are the happiest.
One project I really liked was Jacky’s project about time travel. The reason why I liked his project was because it was inspired by a song I really like from Twenty One Pilots. His whole trailer in a way could be the storyline for the music video as well. So I really liked how he stuck to the concept of the song.
I would love to give a shout out to Yaseen’s “Crybaby”. The reason why i liked it was because of how well each element complimented each other. I feel as the video was very clear and straight to the point. The videos of him shows real emotion which has a much more significant impact on the viewer. There was a lot of care and effort put into the work.
I agree with Jorge and like Jacob’s “The Dreamer”. It’s about a boy being stuck in a loop, reliving. It’s an interesting subject that makes me think. What would I do? How will I abuse it? and more.
I liked Luis’ story of “Alternating Fights” because of I thoroughly enjoy the concept of his project. As I said in the zoom call last week, I find the concept of looking into your future with a VR set to be fascinating.
I would like to give a shoutout to Luis’s “Alternating Fights”. He explores a topic that is incredibly relatable to college students and even those already in a career. I like his implementation of new technology in the plot, which adds a unique futuristic element.
I really like Jacob’s project “The Dreamer” . The plot of his story caught my attention. It is a kid that wakes up and relives his day. It is a very interesting sci-fi idea. The developing of the story is a well worked one that keeps the viewer hooked. Job well done Jacob.
I wanted to give a shutout to Kenny’s project for going out of the box and making the film more than just a love story. He changed the story to a self realization story and bring a message about self love which is an important message to have nowadays. Portraying someone’s thoughts through a film is difficult, but I can see through your summary and research that you were trying to accomplish that for your film.
I really liked “The Atypical Cowboy”
I enjoyed the concept of the video and I think it was very well executed. The chosen clips were very appropriately placed, and I think that the film was very original and creative.
The crybaby project is a relatable to any who has dealt with sadness and the lack of clarity on how to express the emotions which I’m sure a lot people have dealt with one way or another aside from that I’m impressed on how the he chronology of events is happening in sequence and the message of the project as a whole is very clear
One project that I like was, “The Trafficking Ring” by Michaella Kouado. First, I really like the topic of gun control and who doesn’t like action/crime movie. The film is not only fun to watch but we can also see the flaws in our current system regarding guns. Michaella also made a great trailer, it is in high quality. The background music and gifs fit perfectly for the story she trying to tell.
One project that I really liked was, ”The Dying Sea” by Ray. The reason why I liked it is because he creates a story based on his life experiences. Very interesting how the story developed with Jaden finding out that his family was the reason why the place when he grew up changed for the worse. Also, the trailer is very vivid with explanations and Ray sets up the conflict for the audience. Good work here!
