For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
  So how should I presume?
                                      Eliot: “Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”

The first place in New York that popped up in my mind when I read these amazing lines was Coney Island Luna Park. Every fall, the park closes until spring comes around. The place that provides many people with joy, happy laugh, and excitement becomes empty and sad. Even usually bright colors of the park design look muted.  This reminds me that our life is “seasonal”: bright and happy moments are interchanged with the moments when we feel lost and lonely.

Much of the time I spend in the city is now rather than in the past, so my map illustrates my daily adventures. I find myself now reflecting on these adventures and thinking that more is yet to come.

After reading a short story, Girl, written by Jamaica Kincaid, I thought it would be interesting to watch some videos related to sexism in films, and why gender stereotyping arises.

Sympathizing Prufrock’ feeling during his walk with his ‘lover’, this is my experience of walking in the New York City. Feel free to take a walk with me and Prufrock by clicking on my map!

I had an enjoyable time making this map as it reminded me of many experiences and memories that I have. I also had an epiphany and realized how much of NYC I’m missing out on and still have yet to discover. I also thought about how lucky I am to be living in such an awesome city!

Here’s my map:

When I completed this blog assignment, I realized that I should explore New York City more than before. Most of the markers are crowded in the places where I visit the most. There are so many other locations that I would enjoy by myself, or with friends.

Walking with Alfred Prufrock

November 30, 2014

I spent one day to experience what Alfred Prufrock experience in his love song.
