Augusto Monterroso constantly stresses the element of irony in the short story, “The Eclipse”, by writing about a Spanish priest lost in a Guatemalan jungle. The use of irony provides a critique in the false belief of Western Dominance in such a way that makes the priest’s belief of intellectual dominance becoming his very own demise.
