***11/11: Start researching into 3D printers for vinyl production to pick the ideal one for my business
I have found the perfect printer! Yay! It is the iModela (Above).
The iModela can produce smooth and solid objects (toys in my case). Not only can it work with plastic but also wax, foam, and balsa wood. This is a great opportunity for me to explore other materials. The products are made through carving a block, which is different than printers like the MakerBot 3D printer. At the cost of $899 it is very affordable and within my budget. It is also compact and comes with a case for convenient travel. Included, is it’s own 3D software to design objects. It is a great beginning printer for me to play around with until I can afford a more expensive 3D printer.
The iModela is designed to cater to hobbyists and home crafters, which is what I want to do until I can start selling them. It is meant only for producing small figurines, which falls into the kind of vinyl toys I’d like to produce.
Now, I just have to come up with a budget!
Here is an article from Wired on the iModela which goes into more detail about what it is and how it prints (mills.) http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/09/the-imodela/
