Many “progressive” anti-cloning proponents agree that there’s nothing wrong with using spare fertilized eggs, from fertility clinics, for stem cell research.  This type of research is a critical field that can allow for the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and diabetes.  Those who oppose stem cell research, however, are reluctant to allow for the deliberate creation of embryos for this field.  This seems somewhat hypocritical, considering the fact that it is common practice for fertility clinics in America to produce excess embryos – after all, they are to suffer the same fate.
